The history of the wines of Tursan goes back to more than 2000 years. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the departure of the English destroyed the business and too many wines were made in the Gascogne region. The French King, Henry III ordered in 1577 to rip out the excess of vines and he ordered the prohibition of alcohol. It is only in 1589 during Henry IV’s reign that this measure gets canceled. After a long complicated era, because of phylloxera, modernization takes the power and spreads and the creation of a cooperative in 1958 is the start of something new. Today, the cellar gathers winemakers on 500 hectares of vines, producing 30 000hl of wine in AOP Tursan and IGP Landes. This wonderful cellar is managed as a « big estate » and all the winemakers work in regards to sustainable development. Here is a unique range of wines of Tursan to discover or rediscover.
