AOC Monbazillac

South West France

Low, very old vines. : 70 to 100 years' old, 5500 ft per hectare.Manual harvest in two phases with hand-sorted, extremely concentrated botrytised grapes to constitute the base of this cuvée, then very fine blending with other, newer barrels. ageing and fermentation in new barrels for 36 months.Orangy in colour. A nose that expresses candied fruits, beeswax and citrus fruit jelly. In the mouth, significant concentration and with excellent balance. The aromas are delightful and persistent. A hugely successful vintage. Tasting advice: this wine is superb as an aperitif and would go well with a Catalan fish dish, with scallops accompanied by onions, with a blue cheese, strawberry tart or apricots, or a rum-and-raisin or passion-fruit sorbet.

LA GRANDE MAISON

24240 Monbazillac - South West France

It is in the heart of the Monbazillac terroir, on a hill overlooking the banks of the Dordogne and the historic city of Bergerac, that the exceptional organic Château Grande Maison wines have been produced for decades. Among the 14 hectares of vines that make up the estate, 10 are white varieties (Semillon 60%, Sauvignon 25%, Muscadelle 15%) and 4 are red varieties (Merlot 90%, 10% Cabernet Franc). Harvests are carried out manually with various stages of sorting for the Monbazillac. The wines are aged in stainless steel vats and mainly in new barrels.
