The Controlled designation of origin (AOC) Côtes du Jura is the winegrowing area that covers the largest surface in Franche Comté. From Besançon in the North to Revermont in the South and passing by the Château Chalon, it includes a rich and diverse terroir of hillsides.

A richness of terroir which is reflected in the unique cuvées that are produced there. The winemakers produce essentially white wine, with the Chardonnay and Savagnin varieties mostly.

The Savagnin is often added in small amounts in the blending, or used in single-variety wines for yellow wine or straw wine. The Jura red wines are mainly from the Pinot Noir, the Poulsard (or Ploussard) or the local Trousseau varieties. Finally, the sparkling wines are a part of the production, although a minority, with the Crémants du Jura. The white wines can be enjoyed as an aperitif or with a local delicacy such as the Comté or the Beaufort cheese. Red wines and their unique red-orange colour are light and offer a bouquet of red fruit flavours.
