Château Paul Mas: The great name of the Languedoc, accessible to everyone
Château Paul Mas is one of the most emblematic estates of the Languedoc. Deeply rooted in a long family tradition yet firmly focused on the future, it embodies a modern vision of Southern French wine: authentic, generous and accessible to all. This philosophy is reflected in well-known wines such as Paul Mas 1892 Red, Paul Mas Merlot and Château Paul Mas “Belluguette”.
Located in Pézenas, in the heart of the Hérault Valley, Château Paul Mas is now recognized in France and internationally for the consistency and diversity of its wines, from the Vignes de Nicole, Côté Mas and Paul Mas Réserve ranges to terroir-driven cuvées such as Côté Mas Cru Pézenas – Terroir Fusionnel.
A family history spanning generations
The story begins in 1892, when Auguste Mas acquired his first vineyards. Since then, a passion for wine has been passed down from generation to generation, giving birth to emblematic cuvées such as Paul Mas 1892 Red, a direct tribute to this founding heritage.
In 1987, Jean-Claude Mas took over the family estate with a strong belief: the Languedoc can produce high-quality wines without losing its convivial spirit. This vision is now embodied in expressive, approachable wines like Paul Mas Viognier, Paul Mas Merlot and Vignes de Nicole – Cabernet Merlot.
In 2000, he officially founded Domaines Paul Mas and became one of the pioneers of the “New Languedoc”, combining tradition, innovation and blending expertise. Iconic references such as Château Paul Mas “Clos du Moulinas”, Paul Mas Réserve Syrah Viognier and Cuvée Secrète – No Added Sulphites were born from this approach.
A unique diversity of Languedoc terroirs
Today, Domaines Paul Mas encompasses more than 940 hectares of estate-owned vineyards, complemented by 1,500 hectares farmed by partner growers. This scale allows the estate to work with an exceptional diversity of soils and climates, combining Mediterranean influence with cooling upland effects.
The vineyards are notably spread across:
– Conas, the historic birthplace, producing IGP Pays d’Oc wines such as Paul Mas Viognier, Paul Mas Merlot, Vignes de Nicole – Chardonnay Viognier and Vignes de Nicole – Cabernet Syrah
– Montagnac, home to flagship cuvées like Vignes de Nicole – Cabernet Merlot, Château Paul Mas “Clos du Moulinas” and Château Paul Mas “Belluguette”
– Caux, dedicated to prestigious AOPs such as Languedoc, Pézenas, Grès de Montpellier and Terrasses du Larzac, with characterful wines like Côté Mas Cru Pézenas – Terroir Fusionnel
This mosaic of terroirs allows the estate to offer wines ranging from easy-drinking and generous to structured and complex.
Languedoc wines for every taste and budget
One of Château Paul Mas’s greatest strengths is its ability to appeal to both curious newcomers and experienced wine lovers, through accessible wines such as Côté Mas Rosé Aurore and Côté Mas Gewurztraminer Sparkling, as well as more structured cuvées like Paul Mas Réserve Syrah Viognier.
Working with 45 grape varieties, the estate offers a broad and coherent range: expressive reds (Paul Mas 1892 Red, Vignes de Nicole – Cabernet Syrah, Vignes de Nicole – Cabernet Merlot), fresh and aromatic whites (Vignes de Nicole – Chardonnay Viognier, Paul Mas Viognier), generous rosés (Côté Mas Rosé Aurore), organic wines and no-added-sulphites cuvées (Cuvée Secrète – No Added Sulphites).
Red wines, often based on Grenache, Syrah or Carignan, reveal notes of dark fruit, spices and garrigue. White wines, especially Chardonnay-based and Mediterranean blends, charm with their balance and freshness.
A committed and concrete sustainable approach
Château Paul Mas follows a strong, long-term environmental strategy applied across all its ranges:
– around 40% of the vineyard farmed organically
– HVE Level 3 certification
– gradual elimination of chemical inputs
– in-depth work on soil life and biodiversity
This approach results in more expressive grapes and more sincere wines, without ever sacrificing drinking pleasure.
The Paul Mas style: pleasure, balance and consistency
The success of Paul Mas wines lies above all in their consistency. Vintage after vintage, wine lovers find reliable, well-crafted wines true to their style, whether it is Paul Mas Merlot, Vignes de Nicole – Chardonnay Viognier, Château Paul Mas “Belluguette” or Côté Mas Cru Pézenas – Terroir Fusionnel.
A true benchmark for those seeking a dependable, approachable Southern French wine that is always a pleasure to share.
Which Château Paul Mas wines (Vignes de Nicole – Chardonnay Viognier, Vignes de Nicole – Cabernet Syrah, Paul Mas 1892 Red, Côté Mas Rosé Aurore or Cuvée Secrète – No Added Sulphites) would you choose to discover the Languedoc if you are not yet a wine expert ?
