Learn more about Rosé Champagne

Our selection of Rosé Champagnes

Rosé Champagne is the perfect choice for enthusiasts seeking a touch of sophistication and indulgence in their festive moments. With its delicately coloured robe and fruity aromas, Rosé Champagne stands out for its fruity character and unique charm. Discover how rosé champagne is crafted, explore its history and the best food pairings to enjoy with our beautiful selection.

How is Rosé Champagne made ?

Rosé Champagne can be produced using two very different methods. The first is the assemblage method, where red wine (produced in Champagne) is added to white wine before the second fermentation in bottle. This widely used method allows precise control of the colour and aromas of the Champagne. The other process is the saignée method, which involves macerating black grapes for a short period so that the colour and aromas from the skins infuse the must. This rarer and more demanding technique produces Rosé Champagnes that are more intense in flavour and colour.

The history of Rosé Champagne

Although Rosé Champagne has grown in popularity over recent decades, its origins date back to the 18th century. At that time, it was considered a luxury product, reserved for royal courts and European aristocracy. Over time, it gradually became more accessible until it became a staple of the great Champagne houses. Today, Rosé Champagne is synonymous with modernity and elegance, appreciated as much on great occasions as in more intimate moments.

The best food pairings with Rosé Champagne

Rosé Champagne, with its red fruit aromas and vivacity, pairs with a wide variety of dishes. It accompanies aperitifs, fine charcuterie, white meats and even certain spiced dishes perfectly. Its versatility also makes it ideal for more adventurous dishes such as smoked salmon or tuna tartare. For desserts, demi-sec rosé champagne pairs wonderfully with red fruit cakes.

Rosé Champagne combines tradition and modernity, and can accompany a meal from aperitif to dessert. At Avenue des Vins, we offer you a selection of exceptional Rosé Champagnes sourced directly from the estate or house of your choice!

Assemblage or saignée: two styles of Rosé Champagne

The method chosen by the grower directly influences the character of the rosé champagne in your glass. An assemblage rosé will generally be more delicate and precise, with a pale salmon colour and subtle aromas of strawberry and raspberry. A saignée rosé will be more intense and fuller-bodied, with a deeper robe and aromas of cherry, redcurrant and sometimes gentle spice. Both methods produce characterful champagnes, the choice depends on your preferences and the occasion.

At Avenue des Vins, each product page specifies the production method, the grape varieties used and the aromatic profile — so you can choose your Rosé Champagne with complete confidence, directly from the grower's estate.

Champagne terroirs of Rosé Champagne

Rosé Champagne finds its finest expressions on terroirs dominated by Pinot Noir. The Montagne de Reims, with its Grand Cru villages such as Bouzy, Ambonnay and Verzenay, produces powerful and structured saignée rosés, with aromas of dark fruits and spice. The Vallée de la Marne, with its generous Pinot Meunier, delivers round and fruity rosés, perfect for aperitif. In the Aube, Côte des Bar, independent growers craft characterful rosés at accessible prices, increasingly recognised by enthusiasts. The Côte des Blancs, rarer for this style, occasionally contributes Chardonnay in assemblage to refine the texture and freshness of the rosé.

Our grower-producers, identifiable by the RM mention on the label, master their production method from A to Z, whether saignée or assemblage, directly from their estate.

Frequently asked questions about Rosé Champagne

How is Rosé Champagne made ?

Rosé Champagne is produced using two methods: assemblage, which involves adding a small quantity of still red Champagne wine to white wine before the second fermentation, and saignée, which involves briefly macerating black grapes to extract colour and aromas. Assemblage is the most widespread method in Champagne, saignée, rarer, produces more intense and fuller-bodied rosés.

What food pairings work best with Rosé Champagne ?

Rosé Champagne pairs naturally with strawberries, raspberries, red fruit tarts and light desserts. It also pairs beautifully with fine charcuterie, smoked salmon, tuna tartare, lightly spiced white meats or a soft cheese board. Demi-sec rosé pairs perfectly with fruity desserts and pastries.

At what temperature should Rosé Champagne be served ?

Between 8 and 10°C for a delicate assemblage rosé. A more structured saignée rosé gains from being served at 10 to 12°C to reveal its dark fruit and spice aromas. Below 7°C, the aromas close completely, avoid serving too cold.

What is the difference between brut and demi-sec Rosé Champagne ?

Brut rosé contains between 0 and 12 g/L of residual sugar, dry, lively and versatile, ideal from aperitif through to the meal. Demi-sec rosé contains between 32 and 50 g/L, noticeably sweeter, designed to accompany fruity desserts, pastries or pan-fried foie gras. Both styles are represented in our selection.

Is vintage Rosé Champagne worth more ?

Generally yes. A vintage rosé comes from a single exceptional harvest and benefits from longer ageing on lees. It develops additional aromatic complexity, notes of candied fruit, undergrowth, sometimes tobacco on older vintages. It is the ideal bottle to give as a gift or to mark a special occasion.

Is Rosé Champagne sweeter than white Champagne ?

Not necessarily. The pink colour does not mean more sugar, it comes from black grapes, not from added sugar. A brut rosé is just as dry as a white brut. Only the dosage (sugar added after disgorgement) determines the level of sweetness, brut, extra-brut, demi-sec, regardless of colour.

Why buy Rosé Champagne directly from the grower ?

Rosés from grower-producers are often more expressive and more singular than those from large houses, as they reflect a precise terroir and artisanal expertise. At Avenue des Vins, every Rosé Champagne is selected directly from the producer, no middleman, at the best value for money, with all the information needed to choose the cuvée that matches your occasion.
