Domaine de Miribel: Savoie wines from a family estate since 1956, Jongieux
Domaine de Miribel
Independent growers in Jongieux, Savoie foothills, since 1956. Four generations, 28 hectares, HVE certified. Roussette de Savoie, Crémant, Mondeuse, Rosé and Pinot Noir.
Savoie is not where most wine lovers look first. That is precisely why Domaine de Miribel matters. Tucked into the steep hillsides above Jongieux, the Masson family has been quietly growing grapes since 1956, long before Savoie wines attracted outside attention. Seven HVE-certified wines, two Silver Medals at the 2026 Concours Général Agricole, and a range built entirely on native Savoyard varieties. An independent grower available for the first time on Avenue des Vins, shipped directly across France and Europe.
The Masson family: four generations, one hillside
Henri Masson founded the estate in 1956 on an act of faith. At a time when Jongieux was still farming country, cattle, horses, subsistence plots, he saw something others had not yet recognised: a great terroir in the making. He cleared the Miribel hillside by hand, an enormous undertaking that pulled the entire family into the vines. Not for a single harvest. For good.
His grandson Éric took over and ran the estate with the same quiet determination. For decades, most of the wine left through a trusted négociant contact, the rest sold to regulars at the cellar door. No competitions, no trade fairs, no marketing push. Just focused, unhurried work in the vineyard and the cave.
The shift came in 2021, when Éric’s son Kévin, then 34, stepped in to lead the winemaking. His cousin Christopher joined at the same time to handle sales and distribution. Éric remains involved, moving between the tractor and the cellar, but the direction is clear: the next chapter belongs to the younger generation.
The estate’s philosophy
Let the terroir speak for itself. Dry wines, no added residual sugar, no intervention that masks what the vineyard gives. Kévin’s precision at the cellar. Christopher’s drive to bring the wines to a wider audience. Éric’s six decades of knowledge of every slope and stone on the estate. All three at work in every bottle.

Jongieux and Monthoux: Savoie’s finest hillsides for white wine
The Savoie foothills sit between two worlds, not quite the valley floor, not yet the high Alps. A sun-drenched zone where the hillsides fall toward the Rhône and the vines find exactly what they need: warmth by day, cool nights, and argilo-calcaire soils that force deep rooting and build mineral character.
The estate straddles two distinct sites. Twelve hectares occupy the steep Miribel slope, a south-facing hillside where calcareous scree constrains the vines to root deeply into the bedrock. Three additional hectares are planted at Monthoux, one of only four recognised crus within the Roussette de Savoie appellation, on south-south-west facing ground with stricter yield limits and more complex, age-worthy expression.
Two crus, one exceptional appellation
AOP Roussette de Savoie - Crus Jongieux & Monthoux - AOP Vin de Savoie - AOP Crémant de Savoie
Jongieux is considered the heartland of the altesse grape in Savoie, a native white variety found almost nowhere else in France. The combination of the region’s continental mountain climate, calcareous subsoils and the thermal influence of the nearby Rhône makes this one of the most distinctive white wine terroirs in the French Alps.
Grape varieties at Domaine de Miribel
The vineyard is anchored in native Savoyard varieties, with a varied palette of reds that cover every occasion from a weeknight table to a special dinner.
White varieties
Altesse 15 ha - Chardonnay 3 ha - Jacquère 1 ha
Altesse is the estate’s dominant variety: 15 hectares planted for the Roussette de Savoie crus at Jongieux and Monthoux. Chardonnay yields a fresh, mineral Savoie white. Jacquère enters the Crémant blend, where it contributes brightness, alpine freshness and vivacity.
Red and rosé varieties
Mondeuse 3.5 ha - Gamay 4 ha - Pinot Noir 0.4 ha
Mondeuse is the great red grape of Savoie: structured, peppery, built for the table and the cellar. Gamay is vinified as a rosé, fresh, crisp and alpine in character. Pinot Noir, on just 0.4 hectares, produces a light, fruit-driven red that is unmistakably shaped by its mountain setting.
Winemaking: precision and respect for the fruit
The Massons invested in a purpose-built stainless-steel winery with three pneumatic presses and temperature-controlled fermentation tanks, not to standardise the wines, but to protect what the vineyard gives them. A new piece of equipment is a means to an end: more precise handling of the fruit, not more intervention.
Malolactic fermentation is deliberately avoided on the whites: Kévin’s priority is to preserve natural acidity and aromatic freshness. The Roussette cuvées are aged on their fine lees, building texture and complexity without losing tension. For the reds, harvesting is done by hand with maceration periods calibrated to each vintage.
The Domaine de Miribel range
Seven wines, all HVE-certified, each with a clear identity rooted in native Savoyard varieties. From an aperitif sparkling to a structured mountain red, this is a range built for the table, and for the people around it.

Why Domaine de Miribel deserves a place in your cellar
A classified terroir that remains largely unknown. Jongieux and Monthoux are two of only four recognised crus within the Roussette de Savoie appellation. Names that serious Savoie wine lovers know, and that have barely registered on the international market.
HVE certification across the full range. Every bottle carries the Haute Valeur Environnementale label, independently verified for biodiversity, pesticide reduction, fertilisation management and water use. A real standard, not a statement.
Award-winning on first entry. Two Silver Medals at the 2026 Concours Général Agricole de Paris from a domaine that had never entered a competition before. The result speaks for itself.
Native varieties you will not find elsewhere. Altesse, jacquère and mondeuse are as specific to Savoie as riesling is to Alsace. Buying from Domaine de Miribel means buying something genuinely irreplaceable.
The right time to discover them. Domaine de Miribel is only now opening up to a wider audience. Prices reflect the estate’s modest profile, for the time being. The wines already justify considerably more attention.
Frequently asked questions about Domaine de Miribel
What is Roussette de Savoie and how does it differ from other Savoie whites ?
Roussette de Savoie is a standalone AOC produced exclusively from altesse, a white grape native to Savoie found almost nowhere else in France. No blending is permitted. When the label specifies a cru, Jongieux or Monthoux, yields are further restricted and the wine must meet higher typicity standards. It is the most demanding and expressive white wine category in the region.
Which wine should I try first from Domaine de Miribel ?
If you are new to Savoie wines, start with the Roussette de Savoie 2025: the clearest introduction to the altesse grape, fresh, mineral, aromatic and unmistakably alpine. If you already know the appellation, go straight to the Roussette Cru Monthoux: the estate’s flagship, Silver Medal at the 2026 CGA, and built to age 5 to 8 years.
What food goes best with the Roussette de Savoie Cru Monthoux ?
The Monthoux cru handles richer dishes well: fish in cream or butter sauce, free-range chicken roasted with herbs, veal sweetbreads, and pressed cheeses such as Beaufort d’alpage or aged Comté. It also has enough structure for mildly truffle-based preparations. Serve between 9 and 12°C, cold enough to be fresh, warm enough for the aromas to open.
Is the Crémant de Savoie made the same way as Champagne ?
Yes. The traditional method (méthode traditionnelle) used for the Crémant de Savoie Brut is identical to the Champagne process: secondary fermentation in bottle, producing fine, integrated bubbles. The blend of jacquère, altesse and chardonnay is distinctively Savoyard. The result is a fresh, mineral sparkling wine with genuine character.
How long can the Mondeuse be aged ?
The 2024 Mondeuse has a cellaring window of 5 to 8 years. In its youth it is vibrant and peppery, with dark fruit and a fresh tannic grip. With time the tannins soften and secondary notes of dried herbs and spice emerge. If opening young, decant for 30 to 45 minutes.
How do I order Domaine de Miribel wines and get them delivered ?
Avenue des Vins ships directly from the grower, meaning the wines come to you with no additional distribution margin. Delivery is available across France and Europe, with careful packaging suited to wine. Buying here is the most direct way to support an independent family estate that has only recently started selling beyond its local region.
What does the HVE certification mean for these wines ?
HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) is an independently audited French agricultural certification covering biodiversity conservation, crop protection practices, fertilisation management and water stewardship. It is not an organic label, but it is a verified, government-recognised standard, stricter than conventional farming and meaningful in terms of day-to-day practice. All seven cuvées from Domaine de Miribel carry it.
At what temperature should Domaine de Miribel wines be served ?
Crémant: 6-8°C. Chardonnay: 8-10°C. Rosé: 8-10°C. Roussette de Savoie: 10-12°C. Roussette Cru Monthoux: 9-12°C (allow to warm slightly in the glass). Pinot Noir: 14-16°C. Mondeuse: 14-16°C, toward the upper end for structured vintages. The mountain whites are often served too cold, a few degrees warmer reveals everything the altesse has to offer.
