Discover our selection →What is a crémant ?
A crémant is a sparkling wine produced using the traditional method (also known as the méthode champenoise). It shares the same production process and many characteristics with its prestigious cousin, Champagne. The main differences between a crémant and a Champagne are:
The region of production - Champagne can only be produced in the Champagne region. Crémants come from other regions: Alsace, Burgundy, Loire, Jura, Bordeaux, Limoux, Savoie and Die.
Lees ageing - Champagne benefits from slightly longer ageing on lees than crémant (minimum 15 months vs 9 months).
Grape varieties - These vary from one region to another according to the local terroir, offering a wide diversity of aromatic profiles.
Our sommelier tip: the finest crémant appellations are undoubtedly Crémant d'Alsace, Crémant de Bourgogne and Crémant du Jura, exceptional bubbles at prices well below Champagne.

Can you find a good crémant for under €10?
Yes, absolutely. By buying directly from the grower at estate price, it is entirely possible to find excellent crémants for under €10. Château de Bellevue, AOC Crémant de Loire is available for under €9 a bottle with remarkable quality: aromas of citrus, peach and dried fruits from a base of hand-harvested Chardonnay and Chenin.
What is the difference between a blanc de noirs and a blanc de blancs crémant ?
A blanc de noirs crémant is made from red grape varieties (Pinot Noir) vinified as white wine, with minimal skin contact. It delivers light red fruit aromas, apple and biscuit notes, with a fuller structure. A blanc de blancs is made exclusively from white grape varieties (Chardonnay, Chenin) and produces a fresher, more mineral and more floral style of crémant.
Which crémant should I choose to accompany a dessert ?
For a dessert pairing, choose an indulgent Chardonnay-based crémant such as Domaine Cheysson, Crémant de Bourgogne Cuvée Prestige. Its elegance and generosity make it an ideal partner for fruit tarts, crêpes or yellow fruit-based desserts. Avoid very dry styles (Extra-Brut) which would create an imbalance with the sweetness of the dessert.
Can crémant replace Champagne as an aperitif ?
Absolutely. A quality crémant made using the traditional method offers fine bubbles, complex aromas and a freshness on the palate comparable to many entry-level Champagnes. Domaine Koehly Crémant d'Alsace Blanc de Noirs or Domaine Pierre Rousseau Carte Noire aged for 17 months are perfect alternatives for a festive aperitif, at prices two to three times lower than Champagne.
How do you preserve a crémant after opening?
After opening, seal your crémant with a hermetic Champagne stopper and store it in the fridge. It will remain bubbly and pleasant to drink for 24 to 48 hours. Avoid placing a spoon in the neck of the bottle, this popular technique has no proven effectiveness at preserving bubbles. The key: a proper stopper and cool storage.
Loire, Alsace, Burgundy: these 4 grower crémants prove that it is entirely possible to enjoy exceptional bubbles without breaking the bank. At Avenue des Vins, every bottle is shipped directly from the producer's cellar, at estate price.
