CERDON DU BUGEY: 4 VINTAGES TO DISCOVER!
Discovering Cerdon du Bugey: A Unique Sparkling Rosé
What Makes Cerdon du Bugey Special?
This sparkling rosé wine, with its sweet, fruity character and low alcohol content, is perfect for enhancing our aperitifs and pairing with desserts thanks to its fine bubbles. Rooted in a long tradition, Cerdon du Bugey deserves special attention for its unique terroir and ancestral production method. In this article, we will explore the AOC Cerdon du Bugey and introduce you to 4 must-try gems!
Cerdon du Bugey: A One-of-a-Kind Wine
Situated midway between the Savoie and Jura wine regions, Bugey is a small wine-growing area spanning nearly 900 hectares, producing red, white, rosé, and sparkling wines from Burgundian, Savoyard, and Jura grape varieties. Among Bugey wines, Cerdon stands out for its originality. Benefiting from a semi-continental climate and clay-limestone and marl soils, Bugey provides ideal conditions for growing varieties such as Gamay and Poulsard, the flagship grapes of the AOC Cerdon du Bugey.
Cerdon du Bugey differentiates itself from other sparkling wines and crémants through its production method: the ancestral method. Unlike the Champagne method, which involves adding sugar and yeast (liqueur de tirage) to induce fermentation, the ancestral method involves stopping the fermentation with cold temperatures. This technique preserves residual sugars, bubbles, and the characteristic fruity aromas of Cerdon du Bugey. As fermentation is halted before all the sugar is converted to alcohol, the ancestral method yields a low-alcohol (6-8%) and naturally sweet sparkling wine. This makes Cerdon du Bugey perfect for enjoying well-chilled as an aperitif or paired with fruity desserts!
Domaine Sandrine Bigot: Charm and Elegance
Nestled in the heart of the Cerdon du Bugey appellation, Domaine Sandrine Bigot is a small family estate with just 5 hectares of mountain vineyards. Winemaker Sandrine Bigot, passionate and dedicated, produces characterful wines that reflect the authenticity and typicity of the AOC Cerdon du Bugey terroir.
DOMAINE SANDRINE BIGOT — Cerdon (AOC Cerdon du Bugey)
This cuvée represents the traditional Cerdon du Bugey at its finest. With its pale pink color with orange reflections and aromas of red berries (wild strawberries, raspberries), you will be enchanted! The palate is delicate, light, and refreshing, perfect for a summer aperitif or pairing with lightly sweet desserts like red fruit panna cotta.
DOMAINE SANDRINE BIGOT — Cuvée L’Insolite (AOC Cerdon du Bugey)
The Cuvée L’Insolite from Domaine Sandrine Bigot is characterized by its deep pink color and aromas of red fruits [strawberry, raspberry, cherry]. A well-balanced cuvée with intense fruit notes that will surprise many! Very enjoyable as an aperitif, Cuvée L’Insolite also pairs wonderfully with rich chocolate desserts.
Domaine de la Belière: Authenticity and Finesse
Domaine de la Belière is a family estate run by Céline and Gaël [brother and sister], two passionate winemakers dedicated to their terroir. They cultivate Gamay and Poulsard grapes with a constant focus on quality and environmental respect. The estate is also managed under certified High Environmental Value (HVE) agriculture.
DOMAINE DE LA BELIÈRE — Cerdon (AOC Cerdon du Bugey)
The Cerdon cuvée from Domaine de la Belière features a tender pink color and aromas of red fruits [strawberry, raspberry, cherry]. The palate is fresh and flavorful, with a slight acidity that perfectly balances the wine's sweetness. Its low alcohol content (8%) makes it perfect to start an aperitif!
DOMAINE DE LA BELIÈRE — Cuvée La Déserte (AOC Cerdon du Bugey)
Cuvée La Déserte is distinguished by its intense aromas of red fruits, particularly cherry and raspberry. Made from 80% Poulsard and 20% Gamay, Cuvée La Déserte reveals a supple palate and fine bubbles. The high quality of this Cerdon earned it a 2-star rating in the 2020 Hachette Guide.
Cerdon du Bugey is a unique sparkling rosé wine that surprises with its delicious and refreshing flavors. So, don't hesitate and treat yourself to one of these four cuvées for an unforgettable tasting experience. At Avenue des Vins, each wine is available for home delivery directly from the estate or château of your choice.
