Champagne, the drink for parties and celebrations
Did you know that champagne owes its origins largely to the kings of France? In the Middle Ages, the royal tables loved this fizzy, festive wine from the Champagne vineyards. It became the drink of choice for christenings and coronations of the kings of France. Since then, champagne has established itself on the tables of the world as a wine of celebration and elegance, embodying the French art of living.
Discover our wide range of champagnes
Champagne wines cover a wide range of possibilities and styles. They can be Brut Nature, Extra Brut, Brut, Extra Dry, Sec, demi-sec or doux, depending on the amount of residual sugar left after the addition of the liqueur d'expédition. Brut Nature is the least sweet, the purest, while Doux is the sweetest. In great years, a champagne may also be vintage. This means that grapes from a single year have been used to make it. Champagne is usually a blend of several years and several grape varieties!
All the grape varieties of Champagne
The king grape varieties of Champagne are Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. But in total, there are seven grape varieties permitted in Champagne, along with Arbane, Petit Meslier, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. When only white grapes with white juice are used (e.g. a 100% Chardonnay), we obtain a Blanc de blancs. When only black grapes with white juice are used, we obtain a Blanc de Noirs
A wide range of prices
Champagne is blended to produce a wide range of flavours and prices. The plots of land, the years, the grape varieties and the methods used enable the champagne houses to achieve, through these subtle blends, consistent levels of quality that give the champagne its reputation and brand image. At Avenue des Vins, we stock top-of-the-range champagnes as well as less expensive bottles. The only constant is the quality of the champagne. Why are you making the right choice by buying champagne in the short circuit? In Champagne more than anywhere else, competition is tough for producers who are passionate about their product. Buying direct from a producer gives them the opportunity to cut out the many middlemen in the industry and set a fair price themselves. More than just a bottle of champagne, we offer you a story. As you browse the champagne references on our site, we invite you to discover the philosophy of the producers and their backgrounds, so that you can enjoy the contents of your glass even more.
