Add a touch of elegance to your cellar with refined sparkling wines. Their delicate effervescence and varied aromas, from fruity to floral, will enhance your collection. Whether it's a champagne or a crémant, these sparkling wines are ideal for marking special occasions or for enjoying in a convivial atmosphere. Not all bubbles call for the same patience: some can wait a few years, while others are better opened young, for their fruit. For the bottles you keep, choose a cool, dark spot with a steady temperature.

Whether for a spontaneous aperitif, a celebration, or an elegant dinner, sparkling wines are synonymous with festivity and sophistication. To ensure you always have a great bottle ready for the right moment—or simply to create delightful food and wine pairings—it’s essential to stock your cellar with quality sparkling wines. At Avenue des Vins, we’ve selected festive, authentic sparkling wines with good aging potential for your cellar.
Why keep sparkling wines in your cellar?
Sparkling wines are not just for special occasions. A well-chosen Crémant, Champagne, Pét-Nat, or quality sparkling wine can enhance an everyday meal, a friendly gathering, or a fruity dessert.
- Keeping a few bottles in your cellar means:
- Always having a festive option on hand, without last-minute shopping.
- Enjoying wines that have matured, gaining complexity over time.
Meeting every desire: brut, demi-sec, rosé, blanc de blancs… every cuvée has its place in a well-thought-out cellar.
Which sparkling wines should you store?
- Champagnes: especially vintage cuvées, Premier Cru or Grand Cru. Whether Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs, Brut or Extra Brut, they age beautifully.
- Crémants from Burgundy, the Loire Valley, or Jura: fine bubbles, perfect for aperitif or dining.
- Pétillant Naturel (Pét-Nat): to be enjoyed young for freshness, or aged a few months for added complexity.
- Quality sparkling wines: for simple yet elegant moments, at an affordable price.
Our selection includes bottles from renowned estates and independent winemakers, crafted using traditional or ancestral methods—must-haves for your cellar.
How to properly store sparkling wines
To optimize the aging of your sparkling wines, store them away from light, in a cool place (10-12°C) with a stable temperature. Maintain good humidity and, if possible, store the bottles on their side to preserve the cork’s moisture.
At Avenue des Vins, we’ve selected sparkling wines suited for aging, so you can build a varied cellar ready to brighten any moment. Order online now, directly from the estate or winery of your choice, and enjoy our cuvées at the best value for money.
Champagne, Crémant or Blanquette: Each Has Its Own Pace
Champagne spends at least 15 months with its producer before it is sold, or 3 years for a vintage Champagne. The Comité Champagne considers it ready to drink when you buy it, while noting that it can still keep for several years. Our article Everything you need to know about champagne in 3 minutes explains how to store it.
Crémant d’Alsace runs on a shorter schedule: its rules require at least 9 months on the lees and no sale to consumers until 12 months after the bottles are filled for their second fermentation. In practice, time on the lees often runs well past that minimum.
Blanquette de Limoux gets its bubbles from a second fermentation in the bottle, while Blanquette méthode ancestrale finishes its first and only fermentation in the bottle. INAO describes the former with flowers, green apple and honey, the latter with ripe apple. Like Pét-Nat, these wines are chosen first for their fruit, so open them while they are young.
Aromas, Display, Buying: Your Questions on Sparkling Wines to Keep
What aromas does Champagne develop with age?
With age, Champagne develops notes of brioche, dried fruit and honey, then toast or coffee after ten years or more. The Comité Champagne places these stages between 3 and 10 years of maturity and beyond.
How can you display Champagne without harming it?
To display Champagne without harming it, the Comité Champagne recommends putting dummy bottles in the window and keeping the real ones in the dark. Bottles you plan to drink stay away from vibration and odors, in a ventilated space.
Where can you buy sparkling wines to keep, direct from the winemaker?
You can buy sparkling wines to keep direct from the winemaker on Avenue des Vins. The producer packs and ships your order directly.
