Domaine Trichon: Organic and Authentic Wines in the Heart of Bugey

A Passion Passed Down for Three Generations

Domaine Trichon, located in Lhuis in the heart of Bugey wines, has been cultivating the art of vine and wine for three generations. Today, the estate spans 13 hectares of vineyards in Organic Agriculture, cultivated with respect and passion. True to its motto, “The passion for the vine and wine down to the roots,” the Trichon family produces wines with character, authenticity, and respect for the environment.

Natural and Sustainable Viticulture

Domaine Trichon implements viticulture that respects nature. Here, ecological balance is prioritized:

  • Ladybugs naturally control pests such as red spiders.
  • Local plants like nettle and buckthorn are used as natural treatments.
  • Only small amounts of copper and sulfur, used for centuries, complement this work.

These sustainable practices help preserve the soil, biodiversity, and the identity of Bugey terroirs.

A Modern Cellar Dedicated to Quality

The First Underground Cellar

In 1981, the family built a 400 m² underground cellar, providing ideal conditions for aging wines. Up to 150,000 bottles can be stored there, including the prestigious Bugey Brut, aged on lees for 2 to 3 years, rivaling the finesse of the finest sparkling wines.

Gravity-Based Vinification

In 2001, a new innovative winery was established. Designed with environmental respect, it is buried to blend into the landscape and uses gravity-based vinification. This gentle method preserves the integrity of the grapes, limits oxidation, and ensures wines with great aromatic purity.

Thermoregulated tanks allow perfect control of fermentation, while maceration is adapted to each grape variety:

  • 6 to 8 days for Gamay
  • 10 to 14 days for Pinot Noir
  • Up to 14 days for Mondeuse

A History Rooted in Time

The history of Domaine Trichon dates back to 1635, when Pierre Trichon planted his first vines near Belley. Over the centuries, generations succeeded each other, expanding and perfecting the vineyard. From a small 3-hectare estate, the vineyard now reaches 13 hectares in organic farming, producing wines recognized for their authenticity and quality.

Authentic and Varied Wines

Domaine Trichon offers a wide range of Bugey wines, all crafted with the same commitment to quality:

  • Sparkling wines: Bugey Brut and other elegant sparkling wines, aged on lees.
  • Red wines: Gamay, Pinot Noir, and Mondeuse, with fruity and flavorful profiles.
  • White wines: Chardonnay and Altesse, reflecting the freshness and minerality of the terroir.
  • Rosé wine: Delicate and friendly cuvées, ideal for any season.

Each cuvée expresses the typical character of the Bugey terroir, with excellent value for money.

An Ecological and Responsible Commitment

The Trichon family has always placed nature at the heart of their work. The rinse and wash waters from the cellar are collected in an ecological basin, preserving the soil and local wildlife. This sustainable commitment reflects the estate’s aim to combine tradition, modernity, and environmental respect.

Domaine Trichon, located in Lhuis near Belley, is a key reference for organic Bugey wines. Between family heritage, technical innovations, and deep respect for nature, it produces authentic and accessible wines that reflect a unique terroir.
