The History of Château de Lavernette
The Lavernette land and house, originally owned by the monks of the Abbey of Tournus, became the Lavernette seigneurial seat in 1596. Even then, vines were part of the estate, with a winery equipped with two wine presses and four large vats. Today, Château de Lavernette sits at the crossroads of Mâconnais and Beaujolais, in the communes of Chaintré and Leynes, and is owned by the Boisseau family, descendants of the Lavernette lineage.
Antoine and Yvonne de Boissieu managed the estate and cultivated the vines until 1978. Two of their fourteen children, Bertrand and Hubert, established a jointly-run farm, or 'GAEC,' growing vines and delivering the harvest to the cooperative until 1988. Bertrand and his wife Anke later founded an 'EARL' (limited agricultural company), restored the old winery, and began producing and selling their own wines. Hubert retired in 1997.
Since 2007, Xavier, son of Bertrand and Anke, and his wife Kerrie, have continued the family tradition, bringing their expertise and dedication to produce exceptional wines on this historic estate.
