Les Vignobles Laur, Malbec in its purest expression in Cahors
In Cahors, Malbec is not a trend.
It is an identity.
And at Les Vignobles Laur, this identity has been passed down since 1881, generation after generation, with rare fidelity.
Located on the hillsides of Floressas, the estate is now run by Patrick, Ludovic and Cédric Laur. Three generations united around a single goal: revealing the full nobility of Malbec, the historic and emblematic grape variety of Cahors.
A family vineyard rooted in time
For more than 140 years, the Laur family has cultivated vines with consistency and high standards. Today, the estate covers approximately 40 to 46 hectares, on one of the finest terroirs of the appellation.
Here, every parcel is known, observed and worked with precision. Nothing is left to chance. This rigor—often compared to that of Bordeaux’s great crus—allows the production of wines of remarkable consistency and depth.
Malbec, the DNA of the estate
At Les Vignobles Laur, Malbec is far more than a grape variety.
It is a conviction.
The Laur family has always championed 100% Malbec, convinced of its ability to produce wines of great class—complex, powerful and elegant. Thanks to know-how refined over generations, the estate fully masters the many expressions of this demanding grape.
The result: deep, structured wines that remain perfectly balanced, appealing both to curious wine lovers and seasoned enthusiasts.
A legendary terroir in Cahors
The vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir composed of ferruginous clay-limestone soils, rich and complex. Ideal hillside exposure ensures optimal sunlight, allowing grapes to reach perfect ripeness.
This unique terroir gives the wines:
controlled tannic power
deep aromatic intensity
excellent ageing potential
As the estate saying goes: no great wines without great terroirs.
Reasoned, respectful and demanding viticulture
At Les Vignobles Laur, respect for nature is a given. The vineyard is managed under sustainable viticulture, with a strong focus on soil work, traditional practices and the maximum reduction of chemical treatments.
This approach requires more time and effort, but it guarantees healthy, expressive grapes capable of faithfully reflecting their origin.
The art of winemaking, between tradition and precision
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, with extreme attention paid to their sanitary condition. Here, harvest is not referred to as “vendanges,” but as a true “grape picking.”
Winemaking follows traditional methods, including: cold pre-fermentation macerations - hot macerations at the end of fermentation
strict temperature control
Each parcel is vinified separately before blending, to create wines that are harmonious and elegant.
Careful ageing for wines of character
The wines are aged in high-quality French oak barrels with fine grain. Ageing adds complexity and depth, revealing subtle notes of toasted bread, chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon and sweet spices—without ever masking the fruit or the terroir.
Tannic power and finesse of texture are balanced down to the smallest detail.
Iconic and identity-driven cuvées
The richness of the terroirs has allowed the Laur family to create several cuvées, each expressing a different facet of Cahors Malbec:
Château Laur Vieilles Vignes - Le Vin de mon Pépé - Grande Réserve – Grand Cru Quality Charter - Le Paradoxe de Malbec (red, rosé, traditional method sparkling) - L’Orfèvre Viognier - L’Hor, the estate’s confidential cuvée, considered one of the great benchmarks of the appellation.
Each wine tells a story—a place, a choice, a vision.
Les Vignobles Laur, authentic and ambitious Cahors
Choosing a wine from Les Vignobles Laur means choosing: a family committed since 1881 - a fully assumed 100% Malbec approach
