Maison PRULHO, the art of Cognac born from fire and time
The story of Maison PRULHO begins long before the bottles. It starts with Pierre Prulho, born in Bordeaux in 1891, deeply attached to the Cognac region. This passion for the spirit was passed on to his son Robert Prulho, born in 1926, who began his professional life as an apprentice coppersmith during the Second World War.
Very early on, Robert understood a fundamental truth: the quality of a great Cognac begins with the still. In 1948, he became a builder of traditional Charentais pot stills, helping to equip some of the most prestigious distilleries in Cognac and around the world. Fire, copper, and precision became his language.
From the still to exceptional Cognac
In 1981, Richard Prulho joined the family business. Inheriting this technical expertise, he took the vision further: understanding distillation is not enough—you must also master aging and blending.
Maison PRULHO therefore went beyond designing world-class distillation tools and decided to create its own Cognacs, in strict respect of Charentais traditions. Rare, precise Cognacs, crafted with the rigor of an engineer and the sensitivity of an artisan.
A living transmission, a contemporary vision
Today, the third generation is embodied by Mélissa Prulho, cellar master recognized for the finesse of her palate and the precision of her blends. Her mission is to select the finest eaux-de-vie from the most qualitative crus of the Cognac region and give them an elegant, faithful, and timeless expression.
At PRULHO, nothing is left to chance. Each Cognac is conceived as a work of balance, where wood, time, and blending interact without ever masking the origin.
Cognac making according to PRULHO
Everything begins with white grape varieties suited to Cognac production, primarily Ugni Blanc, harvested exclusively within the Cognac appellation area.
After fermentation, the wines are distilled using the traditional double Charentais distillation, exclusively in copper pot stills. Only the heart of the distillation, at around 70% ABV, is kept for aging.
The eaux-de-vie then rest for many years in French oak barrels, notably from the Limousin and Tronçais forests. Time does its work: the spirit softens, color deepens, and aromas gain complexity. A portion slowly evaporates—the famous Angel’s Share—leaving a rounder, deeper texture.
Blending, the house signature
Blending is the final and decisive step. No instrument makes the decision here: only the experience, nose, and palate of the cellar master allow the perfect harmony between different crus and ages to emerge.
This exacting approach gives PRULHO Cognacs their identity: elegant, structured, and precise, regularly awarded gold medals and deliberately distributed in a selective manner, like rare pieces destined for true connoisseurs.
PRULHO, a Cognac house apart
Choosing a PRULHO Cognac means choosing a house that masters the entire chain, from the copper of the still to the glass. A house where technique serves emotion, and where tradition remains alive, passed down with care and high standards from one generation to the next.
