Château La Rose Perrière: The oldest vineyard in Lussac-Saint-Émilion, certified organic
In the heart of Bordeaux’s Right Bank, just fifteen minutes from Saint-Émilion and at the gateway to Lussac, Château La Rose Perrière embodies a rare winemaking history: that of the oldest vineyard in the Lussac-Saint-Émilion appellation, founded in the 12th century on a limestone hillside cleared by Cistercian monks. Nine centuries later, the Sylvain family, four generations of coopers and winemakers, continues to write this story with passion, precision, and a strong environmental commitment certified HVE and Organic Agriculture.
Four exceptional cuvées, unique expertise from barrel to bottle, and a remarkable clay-limestone terroir.
From the 12th century to today: nine centuries of vines on limestone
The history of Château La Rose Perrière begins in the 12th century, with the establishment of the Cistercian Abbey of Faize in Lussac. The monks cleared the surrounding forests and planted the first vines on this limestone hillside. The estate draws its roots from this historic terroir, which still gives the wines their mineral tension and depth today.
The very name “La Perrière” refers to stone, to quarry, to this limestone foundation that defines the estate’s wines. This connection between soil, landscape, and wine gives every glass of La Rose Perrière a strong, instantly recognizable identity.
In 2003, Jean-Luc Sylvain fell in love with the property and undertook a complete renovation of the vineyard, winery, and buildings. His ambition: to elevate this rare heritage to the level of excellence it deserves.
The Sylvain family: four generations from barrel to terroir
Château La Rose Perrière stands out thanks to the unique history of the Sylvain family. Winemakers and coopers for four generations, they possess rare expertise in aging and wine precision. This dual mastery of wood and wine shapes the entire identity of the estate.
From Pierre Sylvain to Claire and Rémi, each generation has enriched the family project with the same high standards. The Sylvain Cooperage, founded in Libourne, is an integral part of this story and provides the château with complete expertise, from barrel selection to bottling.
HVE Level 3 since 2018, Organic certified since 2023
The environmental commitment of Château La Rose Perrière is built on concrete actions. The estate has been certified HVE Level 3 since 2018 and Organic Agriculture since 2023. Across its 14 hectares, this translates into a strict no-herbicide policy, planting of local hedges, cover crops between vine rows, and the presence of beehives, poultry, and sheep to naturally maintain the vineyard.
This patient work is reflected in the glass: the wines gain in purity, precision, and energy. The terroir of Lussac, shaped over centuries, can thus express itself with greater accuracy and depth.
Unique expertise: cooper and winemaker, from barrel to bottle
Few estates can claim such complete control over the entire production chain. At Château La Rose Perrière, the barrels used for aging are custom-made by the Sylvain Cooperage. This approach ensures rare consistency between the style of the cuvées, the profile of the wood, and the expression of the fruit.
Across the estate’s 70,000 vines, harvesting is adapted to each plot. A double sorting process, both in the vineyard and in the winery, ensures only perfectly ripe grapes are retained. This level of precision explains the quality and consistency of the estate’s wines.
The château is also part of the Saint-Élites, a group bringing together eight exceptional gems from the Saint-Émilion satellite appellations.
