Portraits of winemakers
DOMAINE SERRE DES VIGNES: POWERFUL YET ELEGANT WINES
A Partnership of Two Cousins: Domaine du Serre des Vignes
Jérôme and Vincent Roux: A Family Legacy in Winemaking
For Jérôme Roux, grandson of a farmer and son of a winemaker, working the land has always felt natural. Today, he leads the family vineyard, Domaine du Serre des Vignes, where he began working alongside his father in 1993 after studying agriculture. His cousin, Vincent Roux, joined him five years later. Together, Jérôme and Vincent represent the fifth generation of winemakers in their family. "Our fathers worked together on the estate, so it felt natural for us to team up and continue this family tradition," says Jérôme.
Domaine du Serre des Vignes: Organic Farming and Unique Terroir
Located in the heart of Drôme Provençale, Domaine du Serre des Vignes spans 40 hectares of vineyards, 40 hectares of lavender, and 10 hectares of apricot trees. Nestled in this agricultural land, away from industrial activity, Jérôme and Vincent's vineyard has been organically farmed since 2008. "My father and grandfather always tried to minimize the use of chemical products. When Vincent and I took over the estate, we maintained the same mindset. Friends in winemaking advised us to get certified... so we took the plunge," Jérôme explains.
Domaine du Serre des Vignes: High-Altitude Terroir
Located south of the Grignan-les-Adhémar appellation, Domaine du Serre des Vignes benefits from a unique climate, combining northern influences with cool nights and a slightly delayed grape ripening, while also enjoying the southern sunshine of the region, resulting in concentrated grapes and powerful wines. "This is what I call the 'Grignan' style because these climatic features are unique to our terroir. This style is even more pronounced with us, as our vines grow at altitude on the Montagne de la Lance. The exposure to sun and wind is stronger, so we harvest a bit later than our peers," Vincent notes.
The grape varieties at Domaine du Serre des Vignes are well-suited to the Grignan-les-Adhémar terroir: Roussanne and Viognier for white, Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan for red. "Our red wines are representative of our terroir: robust, fruity, and spicy, with great freshness, notable elegance, and excellent balance. To me, wine symbolizes the expression of a terroir and the work of its people. This is the message we aim to convey through our wines," Jérôme and Vincent highlight.
"Terroir Discovery" Trail and Wine Tasting at the Estate
In recent years, Domaine du Serre des Vignes has welcomed groups of visitors for tastings in a 60m² tasting room hosted by Vincent and Jérôme. The winemakers have also created a 1km "Terroir Discovery" trail around the cellar, as well as a free 5km circuit leading to a lookout offering panoramic views of the commune and much of the Grignan-les-Adhémar appellation.
