In the south of France, the very sunny vineyard of Languedoc-Roussillon extends over more than 240,000 hectares from Nîmes to Leucate (Aude), making it one of the largest vineyards in the world. It includes the AOC Banyuls grand cru.The appellation area of this AOC extends over the communes of Banyuls, Collioure, Port-Vendres and Cerbère (just like the AOC Banyuls) on some 1,150 hectares of soils mainly composed of schist. Grenache vines (75%) are planted in this appellation and make it possible to produce Grand Cru red sweet natural wines, recognized for their quality and their aging potential (which can last up to a few decades). These wines are velvety, very complex and structured (they are aged in oak barrels or tuns) and express aromas of tobacco, vanilla, coffee or even dried or cooked fruits.
