Tasting : Well-defined nose, a witness to the concentration of the vintage. Notes of yellow fruit, over-ripening and honey. A Full and rich attack, a rich, charming and well-balanced palate. Wonderful length. Wine best served chilled (10°), as an aperitif and/or as an accompaniment to any meal : Foie gras, terrine, gourmet salad, can be followed by oven-roasted fish or fish in sauce, pan-fried mushrooms in cream or haunch of veal. And what about storage? Wine for laying down, can be enjoyed after two years in the bottle and up to 8/10 years whatever the vintage. The vintages favourable to longer storage are the vintages the give the Pinot Gris a slightly more acidic balance than average, such as 1996, 2004 or 2007, which can be stored for around fifteen years.

Le Pinot Gris est un vin dont la forte personnalité s'accorde avec des mets riches en goût. C'est le vin blanc d'Alsace qui accompagne avec le plus de panache les mets habituellement réservés aux vins rouges. Son affinité avec les gibiers, marinés ou non, le veau, le porc, les volailles, en particulier accompagnés de sauces aux saveurs marquées, les rôtis, les rognons, les risottos, les champignons, les céréales (polenta, galettes de blés ou de maïs& ), font de lui le vin des mets d'automne.

En Alsace il accompagne aussi le fameux baeckeofe. Du fait de son équilibre entre matière et fraîcheur il sublime les accords sucré/salé. Les foies gras frais, poêlés ou mi-cuits raffolent de sa compagnie. Toutes les qualités du Pinot Gris en font aussi un délicieux vin d'apéritif.

KLEE: [terroir]+[enjoyment], the best formula to discover the wines of Alsace!What differentiates the Vignobles Albert Klee:A small family vineyard of 5 hectares located in Katzenthal, 5km from Colmar, the vineyard is made up of slopes and a rich variety of terroirs: granite, sandstone, clay-limestone and limestone marl, suited to growing each of the Alsace grape varieties.Albert Klée, Jean-François' father, modelled these terroirs and has learnt how to understand them all his life, in order to obtain the perfect combination of variety and root stock with the terroir of each plot. Work that today his son continues.The vine growing is based on sustainable viticulture: reduced inputs (almost no fertiliser, when used it is always organic, minimum phytosanitary protection, rather preventative actions are preferred — stripping, low yield, etc.).Vinification is carried out by plot, thanks to a specially designed winery, in small volumes, to preserve the personality of each terroir in our vintages.INDEPENDENT WINE-MAKERS, Odile, Albert and their son Jean-François, work both in the vineyard and the winery and sell the fruit of their production directly to wine lovers and faithful customers.ProfileJean-François Klee, former technical director of Châteaux Léoville Las Cases (Saint Julien), Potensac (Médoc) and Nénin (Pomerol), left Bordeaux in 2012 to pursue a project with his family.With a training in agricultural engineering and wine-making from Agro Montpellier, he is passionate about growing vines and making wine. This comes through in the precision of the style of each of his wines. The final objective, always kept in mind, is the production of a gastronomic, balanced wine to accompany food.He is the last representative in a long line of wine-makers, who have presided over Katzenthal since 1624 and he is perfecting the expertise developed by his parents, who worked to make the estate prosper over the last 40 years.History: A Centuries-Old HeritageAround 1624, Urbain Klee came to Katzenthal and established his vineyard.Since this time, the vineyard prospered and was passed down from generation to generation.4 centuries later, the Katzenthal vineyard acquired its reputation, with the creation of the AOC Alsace and the demarcation on their land of 2 Grand Cru terroirs: Wineck Schlossberg and Kaefferkopf.Vines and Wine: Meticulous Work for an Exceptional ResultThe greatest attention is given to the vineyard.The vines are cared for and maintained at low vigour and controlled yield.The number of bunches on the stock is adapted according to the wine-growing potential of the area, which is determined by experience and observation.The vines' state of health is checked in order to harvest healthy, ripe grapes. Any vine disease must be fought, while also respecting the environment.
