Maison Albert Klee: Winemakers in Katzenthal Since 1624

A Family History Spanning Centuries. In the heart of Alsace’s vineyards, in Katzenthal just 5 km from Colmar, Maison Albert Klee has been cultivating vines since 1624. This small 5-hectare family estate has preserved a savoir-faire passed down through generations. Albert Klee devoted his life to studying the richness of granite, sandstone, clay-limestone, and marl soils, adapting each grape variety to the most suitable terroir. Since 2012, his son Jean-François, an agronomist and oenologist, has continued the family adventure by blending tradition and innovation.

Sustainable Viticulture Respecting Biodiversity

Certified HVE (High Environmental Value), the estate practices sustainable and reasoned agriculture. The low-yield, carefully tended vines benefit from parcel-based vinification that highlights the personality of each terroir. The domain fosters biodiversity by minimizing inputs and cultivating the vines with constant respect for nature.

Rich and Diverse Alsace Wines

  • Dry and Fruity White Wines – AOC Alsace: Riesling, Muscat, Auxerrois, perfect for gastronomy.
  • Off-dry and Aromatic Wines: Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer from prestigious terroirs, including the Grand Cru Kaefferkopf.
  • Red Wines – Pinot Noir d’Alsace: powerful and elegant, aged in large oak casks and barrels.
  • Crémant d’Alsace: a fresh and festive brut sparkling wine, perfect as an aperitif.
  • Sweet Wines: Vendanges Tardives and Sélection de Grains Nobles, true cellar-worthy wines from botrytized grapes.
  • Original Cuvées: Cazindale (unique blend), K à Part (Chardonnay as Vin de France), and Trèfle Gris (dry gastronomic Pinot Gris).

The Grands Crus of Alsace

Representing less than 3% of total production, the Grands Crus embody the excellence of Alsace vineyards:

  • Wineck-Schlossberg (Riesling): mineral, crystalline, and saline, enhanced by its granite terroir.
  • Kaefferkopf (Gewurztraminer): powerful and complex, combining freshness, exotic fruits, and spicy notes.

A Philosophy Rooted in Authenticity

As independent winemakers, Odile, Albert, and Jean-François Klee work hand in hand both in the vineyard and the cellar. Their philosophy is clear: to produce Alsace wines faithful to their terroir—balanced, gastronomic, and full of character.

Among the treasures of Maison Albert Klee – crystalline Riesling, gastronomic Pinot Gris, or festive Crémant d’Alsace – which one would you like to taste first ?
