Your special occasions
Which wine should you choose for your wedding?
From the cocktail reception to the wedding cake, it's important for the bride and groom to choose wines that will enhance your wedding meal during the tasting Grand Cru, grape varieties, appellations, estates, food and wine pairings, discover our selection of wines and all our advice on choosing the right wines for your wedding.
What Wine for the Aperitif and the Reception Toast?
The wedding ceremony is over, and all your guests can now start enjoying the reception toast and aperitif. To accompany your hors d'oeuvres, finger sandwiches, and culinary stations such as a grill, smoked salmon carving, or oyster bar, you should offer fresh, refreshing wines.
You could serve a brut champagne or a blanc de blancs, which pair perfectly with appetizers and will stimulate your guests' appetite. If you have a smaller budget, opt for a sparkling wine, such as a Crémant d'Alsace.
In summer, rosé wines are also highly appreciated at weddings. Choose a light cuvée with fruity aromas, such as a wine from the Provence appellation to perfectly complement all the bites served at the reception toast.
You might also consider serving Ti-punch cocktails to your guests. However, be sure to dose the cocktail carefully to avoid serving too strong a drink at the start of the meal.
Which Wines to Choose for a Wedding Meal?
Choosing the right wine to pair with your wedding meal can be as complex as creating the seating plan. To achieve harmonious pairings, define your menu carefully with your caterer and select your wines accordingly. You can choose classic or organic wine selections.
For starters with fish or seafood, go for a bottle of dry white wine. You could pick a wine from Burgundy, Languedoc, or the Rhône Valley. These refined and fresh cuvées pair beautifully with this type of dish.
If you're serving foie gras, opt for a sweet or semi-dry white wine. Choices include Sauternes, Coteaux du Layon, or Côtes de Gascogne. However, be cautious not to serve this type of wine throughout the meal, as it could overwhelm the palate.
For a meat dish, you might select a light red wine such as a Burgundy wine made from Pinot Noir, with red fruit notes. If you're serving a more flavorful meat like game or duck breast, serve your guests powerful, full-bodied red wines. Rhône Valley wines, like Côte-Rôtie made with Syrah or Châteauneuf-du-Pape, will elevate these dishes.
For poultry dishes in sauce, select a smooth white wine to complement the delicate white meat. Try an AOC Côte de Beaune, Pouilly Fuissé, or Côte-du-Rhône. Lastly, for fish dishes, a dry white wine with good freshness and minerality will highlight your dish. You could choose a Chardonnay, like a Chablis, or a Sauvignon, such as a Sancerre, or a wine from Alsace.
To go with the cheese platter, don’t hesitate to offer dry white wines from Languedoc Roussillon or the Côtes-du-Rhône. Finally, with the wedding cake and dessert, serve champagne. You can choose blanc de blancs, brut, or rosé champagne.
