Portraits of winemakers
Champagne Serveaux Fils: fine, elegant pinot meunier with hints of chardonnay
Founded by Georges Serveaux in 1954, Maison Champagne Serveaux Fils is deeply rooted in family values. This is exemplified by the current managers, Pascal and his two sons Nicolas and Hugo, who together oversee the estate with the help of their sister Élodie. Nicolas, who has had a passion for Champagne since 2001, joined the family business early on, while Hugo gained experience at the AOC Chablis (Burgundy) before returning to the estate in 2011 to assist his brother. Since then, responsibilities have been divided equally: Nicolas handles the vineyards and winemaking, while Hugo focuses on marketing and promoting the wines.

What makes the grape varieties at Serveaux Fils so distinctive?
Unique 100% Chardonnay Champagnes
Located in the Vallée de la Marne, the vineyard of Maison Champagne Serveaux Fils grows Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay, though special attention is given to Pinot Meunier.
We are increasingly adopting a parcel-based approach, favoring Pinot Meunier because it is a very interesting grape variety with great freshness and finesse,
explain Hugo and Nicolas, who see this as an opportunity to differentiate themselves from other Champagne producers.
It must be said that at Maison Champagne Serveaux Fils, the grape varieties are quite distinctive.
Our Chardonnay exhibits characteristics traditionally associated with Champagne's Pinot Meunier and vice versa. Our 100% Chardonnay Champagnes release exotic fruit aromas and a power rarely found in this type of Champagne, which is more typical of Pinot Meunier-based Champagnes. Conversely, our 100% Pinot Meunier Champagnes are fresh, fine, and elegant, traits typically associated with 100% Chardonnay Champagnes and highly sought after by our clientele!

What are the next steps for the estate?
Embracing Wine Tourism
Eager to rejuvenate the brand while maintaining its family spirit, Hugo and Nicolas are currently preparing new cuvées with updated designs, including modern, luxurious black labels already seen on some bottles from the estate. The Serveaux brothers are also planning to expand their wine tourism activities:
A renovation of the winery began in May to offer clients tours of the cellar in addition to the tastings we already provide,
Hugo notes.
Why buy directly from the winemaker? The wines of Champagne Serveaux Fils are shipped straight from the estate: estate price with no middleman, full vintage traceability, and your support for an independent winegrowing family.

Frequently asked questions about Champagne Serveaux Fils
Where is Champagne Serveaux Fils based?
The house sits in the Vallée de la Marne, one of Champagne's key growing areas. Its soils and climate suit Pinot Meunier well, the grape the family has chosen to put at the centre of its work.
Why does the house focus on Pinot Meunier?
The Serveaux brothers work parcel by parcel around this variety, which gets less attention than Chardonnay or Pinot Noir in the region. It gives their bubbles a clean, precise profile and sets them apart from neighbouring growers.
What does a 100% Pinot Meunier from Serveaux Fils taste like?
The cuvée leans towards delicacy and freshness, with a poise usually linked to Chardonnay. It suits drinkers after a lighter, more restrained style of Champagne.
What makes their Chardonnay unusual?
It takes on traits normally tied to Meunier, showing exotic accents and a fuller body than most. This swap of expectations has become a signature of the estate.
Can you visit the Serveaux Fils estate?
The family is expanding its wine-tourism side and welcomes visitors for tastings, with a revamped winery and estate visits in the works. It is a way to see the work first-hand in Champagne.
