The vineyards of Alsace span a surface area of 15,500 hectares. The wines of Alsace have a style that is unique to the region, on account of the wide range of grape varieties. The Alsace Wine Route is one of the oldest wine routes in France. Alsace wines comprise a large number of grape varieties, the most well-known of which are : Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer, Muscat, Chardonnay… Alsace wines bear the name of the grape varieties from which they are made. Alsace wines only have three appellations : varietal wines, grands crus and crémants. The 15,500 hectares produce more than 1 million hectolitres of Alsace wine per year.
