Domaine Pierre Chauvin : Vins Bio d'Anjou et des Coteaux du Layon
Located in Rablay-sur-Layon, in the heart of Anjou noir and Coteaux du Layon, Domaine Pierre Chauvin has been cultivating the art of wine-making with respect for the terroir and family tradition for over 150 years. On 9 hectares of schist terroirs typical of the Loire Valley, Paul-Éric Chauvin crafts a range of certified organic wines, imbued with finesse, authenticity and character.
A committed organic viticulture
Converted to organic farming in 2005 (certification in 2008), the estate values environmentally-friendly practices: chemical-free soil work, preservation of biodiversity and manual vine management. The influence of the neighboring Layon river favors the development of botrytis cinerea each autumn, enabling the production of magnificent natural sweet and mellow wines.
A legacy of five generations
Founded in 1859 by Pierre Cochard, the estate has spanned the centuries thanks to the involvement of five generations. Since 1993, Paul-Éric Chauvin and his brother-in-law Philippe Cesbron have taken over, modernizing the structure while preserving the family spirit of the estate. Today, the spirit of the artisan-winemaker remains, with attention paid to each plot, each cuvée, each vintage.
Emblematic grape varieties of the Loire Valley
Chenin blanc, Anjou's king grape variety, covers almost two-thirds of the vineyard and gives rise to a complete palette: dry, sweet, syrupy whites, and even sparkling wines. The estate also grows Cabernet Franc, Grolleau Noir and a little Cabernet Sauvignon, for elegant, gourmet red and rosé wines.
