Château de Briante – Authenticity, Elegance and Commitment in the Crus of Beaujolais
A Château with Contemporary Charm. Nestled in the heart of Beaujolais, in Saint-Lager, Château de Briante is a welcoming haven where time and wine are savored together. Whether with friends, family, or as a couple, the estate offers a peaceful setting combining history, comfort, and contemporary refinement. Its guest rooms, designed with modern, minimalist flair, can accommodate up to eight guests in a beautiful, character-filled home. The atmosphere blends warmth, serenity, and the French art of living.
A New Energy in the Heart of Beaujolais Crus
In 2011, Lauren Faupin, originally from Beaune, took over the estate and breathed new life into it. A passionate winemaker and oenologist, she now cultivates 14 hectares of vineyards across Beaujolais’ most prestigious appellations:
- 7.5 ha in Brouilly,
- 3 ha in Côte de Brouilly,
- 2 ha in Moulin-à-Vent,
- and soon 1.5 ha in Beaujolais Blanc (Chardonnay).
Her ambition: to express each terroir’s unique identity through precise, sincere, and vibrant wines.
Sustainable Viticulture and an Exemplary Organic Transition
Since taking over, the estate has reintroduced full soil cultivation. No chemical herbicides, insecticides, or synthetic fertilizers are used. This patient, respectful approach began as sustainable farming and evolved into full organic certification in 2020.
The vineyards grow on a mosaic of soils — blue granite, sand, clay, and manganese-rich silt — giving each cuvée its own aromatic character. Harvesting is done by hand, native yeasts are preferred, and intervention is minimal. Here, nature leads, and the winemaker follows its rhythm.
Growing Recognition
The estate’s dedication is regularly rewarded: since 2015, Château de Briante has received numerous distinctions from the international wine community.
- Concours International de Lyon,
- Concours International du Gamay,
- Decanter,
- Wine Enthusiast.
These accolades honor the precision, elegance, and authenticity of the wines, now recognized as shining ambassadors of the new Beaujolais generation.
The Wines of Château de Briante
- Moulin-à-Vent: A structured, elegant Gamay with fine tannins and excellent aging potential.
- Brouilly: Fruity and charming, with notes of cherry and raspberry — ideal for relaxed meals.
- Brouilly Baronne: A deeper, spicier expression of Gamay grown on sandy granite soils.
- Côte de Brouilly: Elegant and mineral, born from high-altitude slopes with floral and dark fruit notes.
- Chardonnay – Beaujolais Blanc: A forthcoming cuvée promising a lively, floral, and precise white wine.
A Visionary Winemaker
“What drives me,” says Lauren Faupin, “is producing, creating, and sharing. The philosophy of Château de Briante lives as much in the vineyards as in the cellar: respect for native yeasts, minimal use of preservatives, and constant attention to the living.” This mindset makes the estate a key voice in the inspired renewal of Beaujolais winemaking.
