Domaine Chiroulet – Five Generations of Passion in the Heart of Gascony
A Family Legacy of Passion and Transmission. For over 150 years, Domaine Chiroulet has let the wind of passion blow over the hills of the Gers. Its name, derived from the local dialect “Chiroula,” means “the whistling wind,” a nod to the gentle breezes that caress the sun-drenched slopes of the estate. Established in 1893, the Fezas family now represents five generations of winemakers rooted in the Ténarèze, the historic cradle of Gascogne wines and Armagnac. Since 1993, Philippe Fezas, agricultural engineer and oenologist, has continued his ancestors’ work with a clear philosophy: to reveal the purity of Gascon terroir through expressive, characterful wines.
A Unique Terroir: The Ténarèze, Mineral Heart of the Gers
Domaine Chiroulet lies on the high limestone hills of the Ténarèze, between the Auzoue and Osse valleys. This singular terroir, marked by tuffeau stone, brown clays, and white soils, lends the wines a rare mineral tension and depth. The south-facing parcels benefit from a temperate oceanic climate with Pyrenean influences — ideal for slow, balanced ripening. Here are born elegant reds, fresh whites, and refined rosés — true ambassadors of the Côtes de Gascogne.
Sustainable and Mastered Viticulture
Faithful to a responsible and ecological approach, the estate practices sustainable viticulture and is moving toward organic certification. Already labeled HVE3 (High Environmental Value), Chiroulet combines ancestral know-how with thoughtful innovation: – Soil care and use of natural composts – Agroforestry preserving native groves (buscagnos) for biodiversity – Green fertilization to enhance soil vitality – Careful management of water and wind, essential to vineyard balance Each vine is cultivated with respect for life, allowing the pure soul of the Gascon terroir to shine through.
The Cellar and the Craft of Philippe Fezas
In 2010, a new bioclimatic cellar was built, designed to combine energy efficiency with environmental respect. Partially underground and powered by solar panels, it enables precise parcel-based vinifications. Each wine is aged in carefully selected oak barrels according to Philippe Fezas’ vision: producing living, balanced wines without artifice. As for distillation, the Gascon spirit endures — the estate’s Armagnacs are crafted in the purest tradition using a wood-fired Armagnac still, preserving a centuries-old craft.
Authentic and Expressive Wines
On this limestone and iron-rich clay terroir, the estate produces a rich and coherent range: – Terroir Gascon – balance and aromatic freshness – Grande Réserve – power and elegance – Terra Nostra – deep expression of limestone soils – Miocène Blanc – mineral and vibrant – Le Temps des Fleurs Rosé – delicate and gourmand – Les Terres Blanches – finesse and tension – La Côte d’Heux – intensity and length – Soleil d’Automne & Vent d’Hiver – fine and lingering sweet wines – JAVA Range (Red, Dry White, Rosé) – immediate pleasure and accessibility Each wine expresses a sincere interpretation of Gascon terroir — precise, fresh, and authentic.
The Chiroulet Spirit
Domaine Chiroulet embodies a humanist vision of winemaking, where land, climate, and skill come together to create vibrant, expressive, and timeless wines. Philippe Fezas combines scientific precision, artistic sensibility, and deep attachment to the land to craft sincere cuvées that reflect the pride of a Gascon family.
