A Historic Vineyard Committed to Sustainable Viticulture
Located between Lorgues and Draguignan in the heart of Provence, Château Roubine spans 130 hectares, with 72 hectares dedicated to vineyards. This historic estate, dating back to the 14th century, is one of the oldest vineyards in France. Its clay-limestone terroir, combined with exceptional natural drainage (the name "Roubine" means "stream" in Provençal), enables high-quality winemaking. Since 1955, the estate has been recognized as one of the 23 Cru Classé estates of Côtes de Provence, a mark of prestige and excellence.
Owned by Valérie Rousselle since 1994, Château Roubine seamlessly blends tradition and innovation, cultivating its wines using sustainable and certified practices since 2017. This commitment ensures the preservation of natural balance while leveraging modern technology to maintain optimal wine quality. The vineyards are farmed with environmental respect, promoting biodiversity and minimizing chemical inputs (some cuvées are certified organic). With an ideal east-west exposure, the estate benefits from optimal sunlight, allowing the grapes to reach perfect ripeness.
A Rich History, Bridging Tradition and Modernity
Château Roubine's history is deeply intertwined with that of Provence. Known since antiquity, the estate was once traversed by the Roman Via Julia Augusta. In the 14th century, it belonged to the Knights Templar before being transferred in 1307 to the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. Over the centuries, it passed through the hands of several prominent Provençal families before being fragmented during the French Revolution.
Since acquiring the estate in 1994, Valérie Rousselle has dedicated herself to preserving this heritage, blending history, terroir respect, and viticultural innovation. Château Roubine offers wine lovers an immersive experience in the heart of Provence. Nestled between the Verdon and the Mediterranean, surrounded by pines, oaks, and olive trees, the estate invites visitors to explore the vine's lifecycle, witness the meticulous work of the winemakers, and appreciate the richness of this exceptional terroir.
