Château Haut Bernasse: the modern, organic expression of the Monbazillac terroir

Château Haut Bernasse

An organic estate at the top of the Monbazillac slopes (Dordogne), at the heart of the appellation. 14 hectares certified organic since 2017, manual harvesting, barrel ageing. Sweet Monbazillac, dry and red Bergerac and a pétillant naturel, sincere and precise.

Perched at the top of the Monbazillac slopes, at the very heart of the appellation, Château Haut Bernasse enjoys a remarkable exposure and a terroir naturally predisposed to the birth of great wines. Here, the vine looks over the valley, captures the light, and ripens slowly to give grapes of rare intensity.

An estate of character, between heritage and renewal

Created at the end of the 19th century, Château Haut Bernasse began a new chapter in 2014 with the arrival of Romain Claveille, a passionate winegrower driven by a clear idea: to respect the soul of the place while instilling a contemporary energy. His approach is precise, committed and deeply agricultural. Each plot is observed, understood, then worked with patience to reveal the best of the terroir.

A demanding organic viticulture

The estate's 14 hectares of vines have been certified Organic Agriculture since 2017. The deliberately limited yields favour concentration, aromatic purity and the natural balance of the wines. Eleven hectares of white grapes from the great South-West tradition (Sémillon, Sauvignon, Muscadelle), and three hectares of red grapes (Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon). Soil work, biodiversity and exclusively manual harvesting are at the heart of the estate's philosophy.

Precise vinifications, between tradition and emotion

In the cellar, precision reigns. Some cuvees are pressed using vertical hydraulic presses dating from 1923, a deliberate nod to the history of the place. Barrel ageing refines the structure without ever masking the fruit. Each wine is conceived as a sincere interpretation of the vintage, without artifice, with a constant quest for freshness, finesse and depth.
