MOOC CAFA Formations: the 1st online course to learn about wine
Why Not Try Cafa Formations' MOOC?
In recent years, MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) have become increasingly popular. This online course format covers a wide range of subjects, from languages to sculpture and architecture. Until now, however, wine was not part of the equation. This is no longer the case with the launch of Cafa Formations' online MOOCs, International School of Wine and Spirits based in Bordeaux, whose registrations open this Monday.
Cafa Formations: 3 Free Initial Lessons
The concept is straightforward: 14 lessons, each lasting about 1.5 hours, with a quiz of 5 to 10 questions at the end of each session to test your knowledge, and a certificate issued upon passing the final exam.
Covering 14 diverse topics (such as the history of vines, grape varieties, wine professions, vintage concepts, and tasting methods), these one-hour lessons are taught by instructor Franck Chaussé and focus on the fundamentals of wine.
The goal is to help learners transition from casual wine enthusiasts to knowledgeable connoisseurs. "This will help them advise friends, identify price and label pitfalls, and be more informed when buying a bottle," notes Patrick Portier, General Director of Cafa Formations.
A Forum for Interaction with the Educational Team and Participants
While the first three lessons are free, users will need to subscribe for €39 to access the remaining MOOC content. Once subscribed, they can view the courses as many times as they like. However, the course has a time limit: users have 1 month and 15 days to complete the final exam, which consists of answering 50 questions in 50 minutes.
"This might seem a bit tight, but the goal is to remind participants that this is a real course, not just a game. But if you take the lessons seriously, there’s no reason not to pass the exam," reassures Patrick Portier. Throughout the course, users can interact with other participants and the educational team through the forum available on the website.
