Portraits of winemakers
Château d’Agel : Entre Tradition et Excellence

A Vision Driven by Excellence and Passion
Château d’Agel stands out with a philosophy centered on crafting wines that embody identity and terroir. Each vintage is designed to transport the taster to the heart of the estate, amidst wild garrigue, sunlit vineyards, and the Mediterranean breeze. Beyond a mere winemaking heritage, the estate is the result of relentless dedication and a constant ambition to achieve even greater excellence. The goal is to blend ancestral expertise with innovation while respecting traditions and the terroir. Welcoming visitors to the estate is also a key ambition of Château d’Agel, offering immersive wine tourism experiences that highlight this unique environment.
Behind every great wine lies meticulous work, carried out by passionate artisans. Marie Eckert, technical director at Château d’Agel, fully embodies this rigor and passion. Coming from a scientific background, she discovered her true calling for wine during her studies in viticulture and oenology. Her role at the estate is to shape the vineyard with precision, in harmony with nature and the seasons, to create ever more refined vintages. Her fondest memory at the estate? Receiving praise from customers and professionals after a tasting! These interactions help refine each cuvée and continuously strive for excellence, vintage after vintage.
A Unique Terroir in the Heart of Minervois
As mentioned in our previous article, Château d’Agel benefits from an exceptional terroir. Nestled at the foot of the Montagne Noire, in the heart of Minervois, the estate stretches across a remarkably rich landscape, divided into two distinct soil types:
- An alluvial and pebble terroir spanning 22 hectares in a single block along the Cesse River. This soil ensures optimal drainage and ideal water retention for the vines.
- A limestone plateau on the Cazelles, covering 12 hectares, characterized by pronounced minerality and freshness, which translate into the wines.
This geological duality gives the estate’s wines a rich aromatic palette and great complexity, perfectly reflecting the unique qualities of the Minervois terroir.
A Commitment to Sustainable Viticulture
Since the 2023 vintage, Château d’Agel has been certified organic, marking a significant milestone in its environmental commitment. This transition to organic farming is accompanied by sustainable practices aimed at preserving biodiversity and reinforcing the identity of the terroir. The estate’s philosophy is based on respecting nature and the vine’s natural cycles. Placing both people and the environment at the heart of the winemaking process is a core value, ensuring a living, fertile soil for future generations.
Among the wines that best represent the estate’s expertise, the Caudios Blanc 2024 holds a special place for Marie Eckert. This white wine, made from Grenache Blanc and Rolle, is vinified with a balanced approach between modernity and tradition. Fermentation in barrels adds roundness and complexity, while aging in stainless steel tanks preserves freshness and aromatic purity. This subtle blend embodies the signature of Château d’Agel: elegant, precise wines that stay true to their terroir.
At Château d’Agel, wine is more than just a product—it is an experience, a story, and a living heritage. Each vintage reflects the terroir and the passionate work of the winemakers. Whether for an immersive tasting, a stroll through the vineyards, or the discovery of the estate’s exceptional wines, Château d’Agel invites every wine lover to dive into its unique universe, where authenticity and excellence meet.
