AOC Saint-Bris
Burgundy, in east-central France, is one of France's oldest wine-growing regions, renowned for its Grand Crus. The AOC Saint-Bris covers some 115 hectares of mainly marly and limestone soils. Sauvignon vines are planted in this appellation, which produces exclusively white wines. These wines are dry and complex, with an aromatic bouquet marked by citrus fruit, peach, lychee and blackcurrant leaf. They can be kept for 5 to 6 years before drinking.

AOC Saint-Bris: Everything You Need to Know About Wines from this Appellation
History of the AOC Saint-Bris
The AOC Saint-Bris, formerly known as Sauvignon de Saint-Bris, is a very unique appellation among Burgundy white wines. Institutionalized in 2003, the AOC Saint-Bris is the only Burgundian appellation exclusively dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris, distinguishing itself from other appellations that predominantly feature Chardonnay, the flagship grape of Burgundy. The wines of AOC Saint-Bris thus express a unique facet of Burgundy, where Sauvignon finds an unexpected expression.
Climate and Terroir of the AOC Saint-Bris
Climate: The appellation benefits from a continental climate with oceanic influences, promoting optimal grape ripening while preserving their natural freshness.
Soils: The terroir of Saint-Bris is mainly composed of Kimmeridgian soils, limestone, and marl, which contribute to the characteristic minerality and liveliness of the wines.
Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris: Emblematic Grape Varieties of AOC Saint-Bris
Sauvignon Blanc (dominant) and Sauvignon Gris are the only two grape varieties within the AOC Saint-Bris. They bring a unique aromatic palette and remarkable freshness to the white wines of AOC Saint-Bris.
Style of AOC Saint-Bris Wines
Appearance: The wine has a beautiful pale yellow color with greenish, bright, and clear reflections.
Nose: The bouquet reveals intense aromas of boxwood, broom, with hints of citrus and exotic fruits. Mineral and sometimes smoky nuances can also appear after airing.
Palate: The palate entry is lively and refreshing. The AOC Saint-Bris white wine shows a beautiful tension and a mineral backbone that carries flavors of lemon, grapefruit, and flint. The finish is long and precise.
