In south-east France, the sun-drenched vineyards of Provence stretch for around 200km between the Mediterranean and the Alps, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, Var and Alpes Maritimes regions. The AOC Les Baux de Provence extends over 7 communes in the Bouches-du-Rhône department (Les Baux-de-Provence, Fontvieille, Maussane-les-Alpilles, Mouriès, Paradou, Saint-Etienne-du-Grès and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence), covering around 300 hectares of clay-limestone soil composed of pebbles and scree. The vines, mainly Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Mourvèdre, grow in the sunny Mediterranean climate tempered by the Mistral wind, producing rosé and red wines. These wines are renowned for being both robust and fine, and can be kept for around 3 to 5 years.
