Spanning over 65,000 hectares of vineyards, the Rhône Valley wine region is France’s second-largest and covers six departments between Vienne and Avignon. It is home to the Côtes du Vivarais AOC, amongst others. The appellation area of this AOC extends across the departments of Gard and Ardèche over approximately 435 hectares of soil composed mainly of limestone and marl. Vines of Clairette, Grenache, Marsanne and Syrah, amongst others, grown under the Mediterranean climate of this geographical area, are planted within this appellation and are used to produce white, rosé and red wines. The reds are supple and express fruity, spicy and liquorice notes. The rosés are fresh and long on the palate, with an equally fruity bouquet (grapefruit, blackcurrant, redcurrant, pineapple). The white wines, round on the palate, express notes of grapefruit, peach, apricot, pineapple, jasmine and even lime blossom.
