LES VIGNERONS DE MAURY
66460 Maury - Languedoc-Roussillon
A little Occitane, Cathar and Catalan, all at the same time, our cooperative was founded in 1910, more than 100 years ago. Dominated by the Château de Quéribus (former Cathar fortress), the Maury vineyard is protected to the north by the Corbières and to the south by the first foothills of the Pyrénées. Poor schist noir soil and a warm, windy climate, makes it easy to understand that Maury is a unique terroir, naturally limiting the yield to three glasses per vinestock (or 25 hl/ha), where the Grenache grape is king. This variety that demonstrates the terroir, is completely at ease here. We understand how to protect and preserve the heritage of our old Grenaches, which include three colours: black (the soul of our cellar), white and gris. The Maury Vins Doux Natural was recognised with an appellation decree in 1936 (one of the first). In 2000, our wine-makers launched the idea of converting part of our harvest into red wines and, since 2011, we are proud to have obtained an extension to the Maury appellation for still wine: Maury Sec. Since its creation, the Cave de Maury has kept on track and remained active for 100 years, thanks to the determination of men and women who have given it life and have been behind the ingrained desire to go further, to believe in the future of an exceptional terroir that is still holding surprises.
