The Beaujolais extends over 18,000 hectares. Beaujolais wines come from a single grape variety, the Gamay. The wines of the Beaujolais appellation can be produced by all the towns of the Beaujolas vineyards, in the departments of the Rhône and the Saône-et-Loire. The wines produced are 97% red and rosé, and 3% white. Beaujolais wines have twelve appellations, : ten crus, Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages. Beaujolais essentially produces red wines. In recent years, an average of 1 million hectolitres of wine are produced in Beaujolais. The appellation brings together six different products : Beaujolais Blanc, Beaujolais Rosé, Beaujolais Rosé new or primeur, Beaujolais rouge, Beaujolais rouge new or primeur and Beaujolais superior.
