Domaine des Amadieu: The Alliance of Organic, Biodynamics, and the Terroir of Cairanne

A story between tradition and renewal: Domaine des Amadieu is located in Cairanne, in the heart of the Rhône Valley, between the Rhône River and Mont Ventoux. Founded in 1992, it takes its name from an authentic 19th-century building once inhabited by the Amadieu family.

In 2007, Corine and Yves Jean Houser, passionate agricultural engineers, took over the estate and decided to commit this 7-hectare property to an ambitious approach: combining respect for winegrowing traditions with modern, sustainable viticulture. Since 2018, the vineyard has expanded into the neighboring village of Rasteau, enhancing the diversity and richness of its terroirs.

A strong commitment to organic farming and biodynamics

Since 2013, Domaine des Amadieu has been certified Organic (AB label) for all its wines. In 2014, it took a further step by obtaining Biodynamic certification (DEMETER label), confirming a philosophy based on respect for natural cycles and biodiversity.

The moon and constellations guide the work in the vineyard and cellar, following the estate’s motto: “do the right thing at the right time.” This approach gives the wines finesse, elegance, and unique freshness, while preserving the identity of the terroir.

Harnessing the richness of soils and grape varieties

We make the most of the diversity of clay-limestone soils, stony terraces, and sunny slopes, as well as the richness of our grape varieties, to create a complete range of wines suited to every occasion.

Since 2007, our efforts in viticulture and winemaking, validated by AB and DEMETER certifications, have allowed us to gain balance, elegance, and modernity.

We oversee the entire production cycle, from vine to bottle, and showcase the strengths of the estate through our flagship cuvées: Vieilles Vignes, Cuvée Garrigues, and Rasteau La Copado.

Our range also includes prestigious cuvées aged in oak barrels, both red and white, such as Haut de Beauregard, as well as fruity and aromatic Côtes du Rhône Villages reds and rosés.

Respectful and innovative viticultural practices

To enrich biodiversity and strengthen the natural balance of the vineyard, the estate has implemented several initiatives:

planting fruit trees (almond, plum, quince),

natural grass cover around the plots,

installing nesting boxes for tits and bat roosts.

These actions complement meticulous soil work and controlled yields, ensuring grapes concentrated in aromas and tannins.

Hand harvesting and traditional winemaking

At Domaine des Amadieu, harvesting is entirely manual and carefully sorted. Traditional winemaking, with punching down and pump-overs, allows each terroir’s typicity to be expressed.

In accordance with DEMETER requirements, fermentations are carried out exclusively with indigenous yeasts, without any oenological additives.

Aging is adapted to each cuvée: stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness, demi-muids for elegance, or amphorae to reveal the purest expression of the fruit. Bottling is done directly at the estate, ensuring full control of the process.

An exceptional terroir in Cairanne and Rasteau

Benefiting from a sunny Mediterranean climate, dry and swept by the mistral wind, the vines flourish on diverse terroirs: garrigue, stony terraces, slopes along the Aygues River, and the sun-drenched hillsides of Rasteau.

The vineyard, composed of Grenache (including old vines over 50 years old), Syrah, and Mourvèdre, also maintains plots of Carignan, Cinsault, and a few ares of white grape varieties (Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Viognier). This heritage offers a rich aromatic palette and distinctive typicity.
