Domaine de Figueirasse – The Soul of “Vins des Sables” in the Heart of Petite Camargue
A unique terroir between sea and Rhône. Rooted in the wild lands of the Petite Camargue, Domaine de Figueirasse stretches between an ancient branch of the Rhône—the Rhône Mort de Saint-Roman—and the Mediterranean Sea. This timeless landscape, shaped by wind and light, gives the vines a rare identity.
The estate’s name harks back to the fig trees once grown here in the 19th century, before the phylloxera crisis upended French viticulture. Sandy soils, spared by the pest, allowed the Camargue vineyard to be reborn. In this terroir of resilience and light, Figueirasse’s winegrowing vocation took root.
A family saga since 1905
For over a century, Domaine de Figueirasse has belonged to the Saumade family—today represented by Charles, Michel, Gérard, and Adrien—three generations united by the same passion: the vine. From the original 20 hectares, the family patiently expanded the estate to 55 hectares, entirely devoted to AOC Sables de Camargue wines.
Their secret? Aeolian sands rich in minerals and silica, with a fine, light texture. Less than 200 meters from the sea, the vines enjoy a unique microclimate: sea breezes temper summer heat while salty spray nurtures freshness and mineral character in the fruit.
Respectful, living viticulture
Domaine de Figueirasse treats the vineyard as a complete ecosystem. Organic farming is a given: soil respect, mechanical work without herbicides, preserved biodiversity. Passed down through generations, this approach yields pure, concentrated, expressive grapes—faithful reflections of the Sables de Camargue terroir.
On this coastal strip where the sea seems to watch over the vines, every cluster captures a hint of salt, sun, and wind. The result: wines with saline freshness and natural elegance—rare in southern France.
Signature cuvées
- Gris de Gris – AOC Sables de Camargue: The estate’s flagship. From Grenache Gris, this pale rosé with delicate fruit embodies the finesse of sandy terroirs. Pink grapefruit and white-flower notes with a taut, crystalline palate.
- Les Saladelles – White Wine: A subtle Marsanne–Roussanne blend with a golden hue and aromas of white stone fruit, fresh almond, and sea breeze. Luminous and exquisitely delicate.
- Les Baronnets – Red Wine: From Syrah, Grenache, and Cabernet Sauvignon, an elegant red showing ripe red fruit, black olive, and gentle spice. Velvety texture and a lightly iodized finish recall Mediterranean nobility.
- Cuvée Princière – Gris de Gris: A more confidential edition with great aromatic purity. Perfect balance of freshness, minerality, and roundness—the refined expression of Camargue.
Between tradition and modernity
With a modern winery, the estate marries traditional savoir-faire and technological innovation. Each harvest is vinified with precision to preserve natural freshness and terroir identity. Over the years, Domaine de Figueirasse has become a benchmark for “vins des sables,” an ambassador of winegrowing Camargue and its living heritage.
Domaine de Figueirasse – The purity of sand, the force of wind, the softness of wine
Wines from Domaine de Figueirasse are more than a local product—they’re wines of emotion, born of shifting sands and a maritime climate. They express the meeting of water, wind, and light. Every bottle tells a story of preserved nature, transmission, and family passion.
Have you tasted a Sables de Camargue wine that captures the sea breeze’s freshness and the southern sun’s warmth this well?
