Domaine d’Hondrat – A living Languedoc, wines of character and a family story
In the heart of Occitanie, between the Mediterranean Sea and the inland landscapes of Languedoc, Domaine d’Hondrat embodies a sincere and modern vision of wine. Here, the vines grow just a few kilometres from Sète, cooled by sea breezes and invigorated by the Tramontane wind. A natural balance that defines the style of the wines: fresh, expressive and deeply Mediterranean.
A family history shaped over generations
The story begins in 1891, when Basile Vigroux planted the first vines. Since then, five generations have followed, driven by the same passion. From just a few hectares at the beginning, the vineyard has gradually expanded to reach nearly 80 hectares today, thanks to the dedication of Firmin, Jean, René, Michel, Jean-Marie, Roger…
Today, Romain Vigroux, alongside Caroline, continues this family adventure with renewed energy, maintaining a constant link between heritage and innovation. Wine here remains a story of transmission, but also of boldness.
A vineyard rooted in the Thau Basin
The vineyards of Domaine d’Hondrat stretch across the communes of Villeveyrac and Mèze, at the heart of the Thau Basin.
Clay-limestone and gravelly soils, some of which are classified as AOP Languedoc, give the wines a clear identity, marked by minerality and freshness.
Iconic Languedoc grape varieties grow alongside more original ones, allowing the estate to offer a broad, coherent and easy-to-read range, designed for a new generation of wine lovers.
Responsible viticulture focused on the future
Respecting the land is not a marketing slogan here, but an obvious commitment. Domaine d’Hondrat is certified Terra Vitis and High Environmental Value (HVE) Level 3.
Cover crops are encouraged, soil life is preserved and interventions are kept to a minimum. This approach promotes biodiversity and allows the grapes to fully express their terroir.
In the cellar, the same philosophy applies: carefully controlled pressing and slow, cold fermentations in stainless steel tanks to preserve fruit freshness and aromatic purity.
Wines designed to surprise and bring people together
Domaine d’Hondrat also stands out through a strong visual identity and accessible, sincere cuvées, created for pleasure and sharing. Behind each bottle is a close-knit team, a strong local presence throughout the Thau archipelago, and a constant desire to create connections between people… and wine.

How do the maritime climate of the Thau Basin and the Tramontane shape the wines of Domaine d’Hondrat ?
The proximity of the Mediterranean Sea brings natural freshness and moderates summer heat, while the Tramontane wind keeps the vineyards healthy and enhances aromatic precision. This combination allows for slower, more balanced ripening of the grapes, resulting in Languedoc wines that are fresher, more expressive and remarkably vibrant, a true signature of Domaine d’Hondrat.
