Château Montana – Organic Agriculture and Tradition in the Aspres

A Historic Estate in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Founded in the late 19th century, Château Montana is located on the slopes of Pic du Canigou, between the sea and the mountains, in the Aspres region south of Perpignan. Jean Jonquères d’Oriola, from a family of farmers established in the area for over five centuries, continues the family’s passion for vineyards and winemaking. The estate covers 60 hectares of vineyards, offering ideal conditions for growing both local and international grape varieties.

Terroir and Grape Varieties

The clay-limestone soils of the Aspres give the grapes finesse and strength. The estate cultivates traditional varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre, and Muscat, alongside complementary grapes like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Marselan, and Cinsault. This diversity allows the creation of rich, balanced red, white, and rosé wines.

Sustainable Viticulture and Organic Conversion

Committed to environmentally friendly practices, Château Montana is certified High Environmental Value (HVE) and applies traditional techniques such as mechanical soil work. Since summer 2023, the estate is in organic conversion, ensuring low yields that promote quality and biodiversity. The 2023 vintage will be officially certified organic.

Vinification and Aging

All wines are vinified, aged, and bottled on-site. The winery is equipped with temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and a barrel cellar for precise aging. Each cuvée reflects the Aspres terroir and family know-how, from dry wines to sweet natural wines.

Family and Passion

Jean Jonquères d’Oriola and his family dedicate their passion to winemaking across generations. Château Montana combines tradition and modernity, offering visitors a unique experience through tours, tastings, and events. The estate also provides cottages and a reception hall for private or professional events.

Wines and Appellations

The estate produces various cuvées under the following appellations:

  • Côtes du Roussillon Villages Les Aspres
  • Côtes du Roussillon
  • Côtes Catalanes
  • IGP Côtes Catalanes
  • Sweet Natural Wines
