Château de Viviers: a historic treasure at the heart of Chablis
Château de Viviers
A listed château from the early 17th century at the heart of the Chablis vineyard. Chablis AOC 100% Chardonnay, in organic and biodynamic conversion, since 2019 by Arnould Lefébure.
Listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments, Château de Viviers was built at the beginning of the 17th century, in the middle of the prestigious Chablis vineyard. Inspired by the elegance of the nearby Château d'Ancy-le-Franc, it stands out for its sober and refined, typically French architecture.
According to tradition, it was built to honour one of the famous « Grey Musketeers » of Queen Anne of Austria, riders renowned for their grey horses and their military feats.

A wine estate with a centuries-old heritage
The winemaking history of Château de Viviers goes back to the 13th century, when the Cistercian monks of Pontigny Abbey founded the first vineyard there. Over the centuries, the estate went through different eras: acquired by Guillaume Budé in the 16th century, it had its hour of glory in 1725 when its wines were served at the wedding of King Louis XV and Marie Leszczyńska.
Rewarded many times in wine competitions, Château de Viviers carries on this tradition of excellence. Since 2019, Arnould Lefébure has taken over the management of the estate, consolidating the family heritage. The estate stands out for three commitments:
A historic heritage that links its architecture and its wines to centuries of Burgundy tradition.
The protection of biodiversity with practices respectful of the environment and a commitment to local fauna and flora.
The quest for excellence present in each cuvée and supported by a collaboration with the best wine experts.
An organic and biodynamic viticulture
The estate is engaged in a full conversion to organic farming and applies advanced biodynamic practices. No pesticide or herbicide is used. The soil is enriched by cover crops, hedges have been planted, and nest boxes host different bird species. An ambitious agroforestry project, rare in Burgundy, combines young vines with hundred-year-old oaks.
Natural preparations such as nettle, horsetail or comfrey complement the reasoned use of copper and sulphur. Guyot-Poussard pruning, favouring the longevity of the vine and respecting the flow of sap, is gradually adopted.
Preserving nature every day
Beyond the vines, Château de Viviers celebrates nature in all its diversity. Bees, birds and small mammals live together harmoniously on the estate. The honey produced by the château's beehives reflects this balance between viticulture and ecosystem.
