Portraits of winemakers
The excellence of Château Dauzac
The maritime influence combined with the natural protection of surrounding forests creates an ideal ecosystem for viticulture. The iconic yellow color of the estate symbolizes quality and innovation, recognized by wine enthusiasts worldwide. Since its classification as a Grand Cru Classé of Margaux in 1855, Château Dauzac has embodied the elegance and tradition of Bordeaux's great vineyards.
Available directly from the estate on Avenue des Vins.
What is the history behind Château Dauzac?
From 1190 to the Roulleau family
Château Dauzac's history dates back to 1190 when Pétrus d'Auzac was granted these lands by Richard the Lionheart. Over the centuries, the estate has evolved and innovated while respecting its traditions. From the creation of Bordeaux mixture in 1884 by Alexis Millardet and Ernest David to the recent acquisition by the Roulleau Family in 2019, each milestone has reinforced Château Dauzac's reputation as a symbol of viticultural excellence.
How does the estate combine commitment and innovation?
Indigenous yeasts, ungrafted vines and vegan wines
Château Dauzac stands out for its commitment to environmental sustainability and its capacity for innovation. Since 2016, the estate has used indigenous yeasts selected and multiplied on-site, ensuring a unique and authentic fermentation process. In 2017, the estate replanted ungrafted Cabernet Sauvignon vines to restore the original taste of this emblematic Médoc grape variety. Additionally, Château Dauzac has pioneered the production of vegan wines, using plant proteins for fining instead of traditional egg whites.
Innovation is deeply embedded in Château Dauzac's DNA. This year, the estate celebrates the 100th anniversary of the first bottling of a Grand Cru Classé on the property under the yellow label. This ongoing innovation reflects Château Dauzac's commitment to blending tradition and modernity to offer exceptional wines while respecting the environment. The estate's motto, "Château Dauzac: Chic, but Fun!" perfectly reflects this balance between heritage and innovation.
Who are the winemakers behind the wines today?
A lineage of passionate viticulturists
The current winemaker of Château Dauzac comes from a lineage of passionate viticulturists. From a young age, he was immersed in the world of wine, cultivated by his grandfather and father. After studying oenology in Blanquefort and training at Château Rauzan Ségla, he gained extensive expertise that guides him through every stage of winemaking.
The motivation of the winemaker and his team is to produce the best possible wine year after year. Each harvest is a new challenge and an opportunity for continuous improvement. Their commitment to quality and respect for the terroir is reflected in every bottle, making Château Dauzac a place where tradition, innovation, and passion converge to create sophisticated and elegant wines, reflecting the spirit of their creators.
Why buy directly from the winemaker? The wines of Château Dauzac are shipped straight from the estate: estate price with no middleman, full vintage traceability, and your support for an independent winegrowing family.

Frequently asked questions about Château Dauzac
Where is Château Dauzac located and which appellation is it ?
The estate sits in the Médoc, within the Margaux appellation, close to the Gironde estuary. The water and the woodland around it shape a mild local climate that suits the vines.
Why is Château Dauzac's yellow label so iconic ?
This yellow is the estate's visual signature, familiar to wine lovers across the globe. The property is now marking a century since its first Grand Cru Classé bottled on site wore the colour.
Are Château Dauzac wines vegan ?
Yes. The estate ranks among the early movers for vegan wine in Bordeaux. To clarify its cuvées, it dropped the usual egg white in favour of proteins of plant origin.
Which grape variety defines Château Dauzac ?
Cabernet Sauvignon leads the way, the flagship grape of the Médoc. In 2017 the property replanted plots on their own roots, without rootstock, to reconnect with the grape's earliest character.
How long has Château Dauzac been a Grand Cru Classé ?
It has held Grand Cru Classé rank since 1855. The site is far older, though : the land was granted to Pétrus d'Auzac by Richard the Lionheart back in 1190, and Bordeaux mixture was born here in 1884.
