Clos des Constellations is rooted in Lesquerde, on a Roussillon terroir as unique as it is discreet, composed of garrigue, granite sand soils, and ferite. An environment that the winemaker describes as a true haven of peace. This village also carries a strong viticultural history, marked by a sudden shift. Indeed, this region, long considered one of the most prominent areas for Roussillon red wines, was later abandoned, going from around 150 producers in the 1970s to only 8 today. It is in this context that the project makes perfect sense, with the desire to restore value to a threatened viticultural heritage.

How did the adventure of the domain begin?

The former cooperative cellar

The story of the domain is inseparable from that of its family. With Julia, his wife, he acquired the former cooperative cellar of Lesquerde. This building, erected in 1923 at the entrance of the village, had been abandoned for nearly 15 years. Their first visit was a shock, an obvious sign of a life project to be built stone by stone. With no vines initially, the domain developed by purchasing plots destined for uprooting, from retiring winemakers with no successor. A logic of gradual and respectful transmission, where former producers continue to work “at their own pace.” This approach helps preserve the landscapes, maintain activity in the village, and create a concrete intergenerational relay.

Where does this vocation come from?

A memory rooted in childhood

This adventure also draws on a personal history, marked by the vine from childhood. Sébastien’s grandfather was a winemaker in the Roussillon plain. He accompanied him in the family vineyard from his very first steps! At the age of 5, the total uprooting of his grandfather’s vines, experienced as a heartbreak, left a lasting mark. This event sparked a deep desire to revive a domain one day. Clos des Constellations then appears as a continuity and a stance against the viticultural decline in the region.

How is the project taking shape?

A ten-year vision

The project is conceived over the long term, with a 10-year program. The first steps consisted of securing the building and starting major renovation work. From the 2026 harvest, the opening of the winemaking cellar is planned in this renovated building, before future phases of development aiming at a large oenotourism project. The domain also claims a responsible approach, with manual work in the vineyard and raw materials sourced within 30 km. A logic consistent with the idea of preserving a territory and building a family project focused on quality.

The wines of Clos des Constellations embody a strongly symbolic identity, where the stars play a central role. The name of the domain comes first from the family story, with the children all bearing a second name of a constellation, but also from the natural setting of Lesquerde, situated at 349 m above sea level. Far from light pollution, the site is ideal for stargazing. This poetic dimension is reflected in a deliberate signature, a way of connecting a place, a story, and a wine.

Which cuvées matter most to you?

Orion and Perséides

Among the cuvées, Orion holds a special place. Presented at a local event in front of nearly 300 people from the restaurant industry, it remains the most memorable experience for the winemaker. Sébastien also cites the Perséides cuvée, a naturally sweet wine, as the one that resembles him most: authentic, complex, demanding, and linked to the idea of renewal. For him, producing a sweet wine requires time, technique, but above all a constant desire to bring a forgotten heritage back to light. Thanks to the efforts of Sébastien and other winemakers in the region, these beautiful cuvées are gradually reclaiming their place on the finest tables in France!
