Portraits of winemakers
Château de Fontesteau
While the exact date when vines first appeared on the estate is unknown, Château Fontesteau was already mentioned in the Feret Guide of Bordeaux wines in 1876. Since then, the vineyard has built a solid reputation for producing high-quality red wines. This consistent excellence has earned Château Fontesteau the designation of Cru Bourgeois since 1932. In the 1960s, a wine merchant from Germany fell in love with Château Fontesteau. About thirty years later, his son, Joachim Immelnkemper, acquired the 13th-century estate, fully renovated it, and partnered with Dominique Fouin, then the estate's winemaker, in wine production. Today, a team of young enthusiasts continues to bring life to Château Fontesteau, perpetuating the estate's legacy by contributing each year to the creation of high-quality red wines.
Available directly from the estate on Avenue des Vins.
What place does nature hold at the estate?
Commitment to Biodiversity
Long-term vision and respect for nature are integral to Château Fontesteau's identity. The estate is committed to environmental protection and biodiversity development, and no decision is made unless it aligns with sustainable practices. The team is focused on building a sustainable brand that prioritizes the protection of this exceptional biodiversity site, ensuring that human activities do not disrupt its natural balance. For this reason, organic farming, agropastoralism, and responsible water management are natural choices for the estate.
In this same eco-friendly spirit, Château Fontesteau also aims to develop a slow tourism wine tourism offering, allowing more people to discover this unique place. More than just a vineyard, wine lovers can take the time to appreciate the landscapes, local wildlife, and flora while enjoying the fruits of the winemakers' labor.
How is the passion for great red wines expressed here?
Passion driving Haut-Médoc red wines
At Château Fontesteau, winemaking is akin to playing with the four elements: earth, water, fire, and air. Observing, adapting, and continuously learning are crucial, as the interaction with nature’s elements, the versatility of the craft, and the rhythm of the seasons inspire the Château Fontesteau team to make wine every day.
Marion Cousin, manager at Château Fontesteau, also brings her passion and expertise to this Haut-Médoc terroir. Born in Auvergne, she traveled the world exploring iconic vineyards from New Zealand to Argentina. She fondly remembers the rich and silky Malbecs enjoyed with asado grills. Today, she uses her past experience to master the tannins of the powerful and elegant red wines of the Médoc.
Drawing on the expertise of its winemakers and rich history, Château Fontesteau produces exceptional AOC Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois red wines that are a must-try!
