CHAMPAGNE GUY CHARBAUT: FROM FATHER TO SON

A Legacy of Champagne Excellence

It all began in 1936 when winemaker André planted his first vines in the Champagne town of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. A few decades later, his son Guy took over and planted an additional ten hectares in his father's vineyard. Guy's expertise in champagne production earned him the privilege of creating his own label, leading to the birth of Maison Champagne Guy Charbaut.

Xavier Takes the Helm

In 1986, Xavier, Guy's son, joined the two men in the vineyards. “I’ve been immersed in the Champagne vines since childhood. It was only natural for me to direct my career toward viticulture,” says Xavier. After Guy’s passing in 2001, Xavier became the official manager of the estate, supported by his wife Nathalie. Together, they ensure the smooth operation of the Domaine.

Nathalie handles the administrative side, while Xavier, in addition to producing champagne, develops business relationships and manages the export of their cuvées internationally, with the help of the newly hired Yoann.

Moving Towards Sustainable Viticulture Certification

Dedicated to preserving the prestige of his heritage, Xavier is committed to maintaining the brand's image and the quality of their champagne production. “The name Guy Charbaut carries significant prestige. We certainly leverage this brand image to promote our cuvées,” explains Xavier.

As president of the St Vincent Mareuil-sur-Aÿ fraternity, Xavier also considers future generations. This is why he is currently working on establishing a sustainable viticulture certification for Champagne producers, set to be implemented starting summer 2016.

Bed and Breakfast Hospitality

Passionate about his work and always seeking new experiences, this somewhat hyperactive winemaker also serves as a municipal advisor. Even in the evenings, there’s no rest, as Xavier and his wife host visitors by offering meals at their table and providing guest rooms. “These encounters enrich us, as they allow us to share our passion and pass on our knowledge,” says the winemaker with enthusiasm
