With a philosophy rooted in respect for and the promotion of biodiversity, Bertrand Weisgerber acquired Château la Peyruche in 2017. Enchanted by this haven of diversity and greenery, he decided to revive the estate with the help of David Sarry, who joined Peyruche immediately after the acquisition. Since then, the vineyard has been firmly committed to transitioning to organic farming.

What drives Bertrand is the desire to let the terroir speak through his cuvées and to transport tasters into its essence. His fifty-hectare estate, located along the Garonne River between Cadillac and Bordeaux, allows him to practice his craft on the Langoiran hills overlooking the river.

Where does the estate stand in its shift to organic farming?

A rich and diverse terroir, soon to be organic

The vineyard has been transitioning to organic farming since 2018 and has already been certified as HVE (High Environmental Value) since the 2019 vintage. This certification recognizes the efforts made towards conversion that began with the acquisition of the estate. The next step will be achieving organic certification by the 2021 vintage.

These three years of conversion and the winemaker's efforts enable the expression of the vineyard's terroir. The terroir is even reflected in the estate's name, as “peyre ruche” means “rough stone” in Gascon. The high slopes are composed of red gravel, while the lower parts are clayey and deep, and the hillside consists of clay-limestone soils. This diversity is mirrored in the wines: the estate’s wines are as fruity and supple as they are structured and refined.

The estate showcases this Bordeaux terroir with a rich varietal range typical of Bordeaux wines: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Sémillon, and Sauvignon Blanc. These diverse varieties allow the estate to offer both red and white wines with multiple personalities.

Medal-winning cuvées have been awarded since the first year of Bertrand and David's stewardship. Notably, the 2018 Fût de Chêne cuvée, dominated by Merlot, received a two-star favorite from the Hachette Guide.
