Cave du mois de juillet: Provence rosés, organic & natural wines from the South of France, direct from the winemaker

July, the month when the South sets the rules

When July settles its heat over the French vineyards, it is the terroirs of the Midi that speak the loudest. The garrigue scents the air around the Grenache and Syrah parcels, the Côtes de Provence unfold their peach-hued rosés, and the winemakers of Languedoc and the South-West craft cuvées that carry within them the light and minerality of their soils. July is the month of unapologetic wine: honest, sun-drenched, generous.

For this month's selection, our team chose the South and authenticity. Provence rosés with pale robes and a saline finish, full-bodied reds born on clay-limestone soils, aromatic whites with notes of white flowers and citrus, each bottle tells the story of a terroir, a winemaker, a savoir-faire passed down from vine to cellar.

A resolutely committed selection: organic, biodynamic and natural wines

What sets the July selection apart is its exceptional level of viticultural commitment. Most of the estates chosen this month work in organic or biodynamic farming, and some vinify without added sulphur. This is not a marketing argument: it reflects a conviction shared between our selection team and Avenue des Vins partner winemakers, that the best wine is the one that respects the soil it comes from.

By buying direct on Avenue des Vins, you gain access to these confidential cuvées, often absent from conventional distribution channels. The winemaker ships the bottles directly from the estate: no intermediate warehouse, no break in the chain, a vintage received in the exact condition it left the cellar. To explore other great expressions of the French vineyard, discover our selections of Rhône Valley wines and South-West wines, two regions well represented in our July cave.

FAQ: Cave du mois de juillet

Why is the July cave du mois dominated by wines from the South of France ?

July is the month of peak summer ripeness, and the terroirs of the South, Provence, Languedoc, South-West, naturally produce wines suited to the season: fresh rosés, aromatic whites, supple and fruity reds that pair just as well with aperitifs as with grilled food or rock fish. Our selection team follows seasonality when composing each monthly cave.

What is a natural wine or a wine without added sulphites ?

A natural wine is vinified with minimal technical intervention: indigenous yeasts, without excessive filtration, and without the addition of sulphur dioxide (SO2) beyond what is naturally produced during fermentation. These wines often express a more direct, livelier personality. They sometimes require storage away from heat and should be consumed more quickly once opened.

Which emblematic grape varieties feature in the July cave du mois ?

The July selection draws on the great grape varieties of the Midi: Grenache and Grenache Noir for roundness and red fruit aromas, Syrah for structure and spiced notes, Carignan and Mourvèdre for depth and ageing potential. On the white side, Rolle (also known as Vermentino) brings freshness and the floral notes characteristic of Provençal terroirs.

How should I store the July wines during a heatwave ?

In summer, heat is wine's biggest enemy. Avoid storing bottles in direct sunlight or anywhere the temperature exceeds 20°C. A wine cellar, a natural cave or a wine fridge between 12 and 15°C is ideal. For bottles intended to be drunk soon, one hour in the refrigerator before serving is enough for rosés and whites.

Is the July cave du mois suitable for a vegetarian or vegan meal ?

Yes. Several wines in this selection come from certified vegan estates, produced without animal-derived products during vinification (fish glue, egg albumin, etc.). This information is specified on each product page. The fruity and lighter wines in the selection also pair beautifully with grilled vegetables, summer salads or legume-based dishes.
