In the south of France, the sun-drenched Languedoc-Roussillon wine region stretches over 240,000 hectares from Nîmes to Leucate (Aude), making it one of the largest wine regions in the world. Notably, it is home to the Côtes du Roussillon Villages Tautavel AOC. The appellation area for this AOC covers the municipalities of Tautavel and Vingrau (Pyrénées-Orientales) across some 301 hectares of limestone and clay-limestone soils. Vines of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignan, influenced by the Mediterranean climate of this region, are planted within this appellation and produce red wines with good aging potential. These wines are known for their powerful tannins and notes of spices and ripe fruit.
