Château des Broyers: Tradition, Modernity, and Excellence in Southern Burgundy

A Historic Estate Rooted in Burgundy’s Terroir. Located in southern Burgundy near Mâcon, Château des Broyers has cultivated a passion for wine for over three centuries. Across its 3 hectares of vineyards, the estate produces exceptional wines from prestigious appellations: Saint-Amour, Moulin-à-Vent, Juliénas, Morgon, Beaujolais-Villages, Saint-Véran, Pouilly-Fuissé, and Crémant de Bourgogne. Restructured in 2003, the estate now combines historical heritage and sustainable viticulture to reveal the purest expression of each appellation.

A Philosophy: Between Respect for the Land and Innovation

When the Coquard family acquired the vineyard in 2003, their mission was clear: to restore and revive a forgotten wine heritage. After years of replanting, restoration, and modernization, the estate entered a new era balancing tradition and innovation. Committed to sustainable viticulture, Château des Broyers favors environmentally friendly practices while embracing creativity. Innovation inspired the creation of Jeu de Bulles — an audacious sparkling rosé born in 2008 from an experimental fermentation process. “To craft sincere, elegant, and authentic wines true to their origins” — this is the motto of owner Pierre Coquard.

The Cellar Master: The Art and Precision of Winemaking

With over 30 years of experience, Jean-Michel Bataillard, the estate’s cellar master, embodies expertise and dedication. From vineyard to bottle, he oversees every stage of production to highlight the potential of each grape variety. Deeply rooted in his region, he reveals the finesse, depth, and balance of Beaujolais and Burgundy wines.

Grapes and Terroirs: The Natural Harmony of Gamay and Chardonnay

The estate cultivates two emblematic varieties: Chardonnay – producing elegant, rich, and luminous whites. Gamay – offering expressive, fruity, and refined reds. This duality showcases the diversity of Burgundy and Beaujolais terroirs: – Limestone slopes of the Roche de Solutré (Pouilly-Fuissé) – Clay-limestone soils around the château – Sandy terrains of Moulin-à-Vent — synonymous with power and balance. Each wine draws its identity from the land, resulting in sincere, precise cuvées that reflect the vintage and the estate’s expertise.

Sustainable Viticulture and Respect for Nature

Château des Broyers practices sustainable, low-input farming to protect biodiversity and soil vitality. Manual labor remains essential, especially for red AOC wines, which are exclusively hand-harvested.

Harvesting: Tradition and Rigorous Selection

Two methods are used at the estate: – Hand harvesting for red AOCs: careful selection, gentle pressing. – Mechanical harvesting for certain wines like Beaujolais Villages Blanc or Jeu de Bulles, with manual quality control afterward. This precision preserves the integrity of the fruit and the wine’s aromatic richness.

Diverse and Tailored Winemaking Methods

Château des Broyers employs three main techniques: – Traditional Beaujolais fermentation (reds) – whole-cluster fermentation and careful aging. – Burgundian vinification (whites) – immediate pressing, slow fermentation. – Jeu de Bulles method – short fermentation and natural bottle carbonation. Each method aims to enhance fruit purity and terroir expression.

Barrel Aging: The Estate’s Signature

Select cuvées like Juliénas and Moulin-à-Vent are aged in 215 L oak barrels, lending roundness, structure, and subtle elegance.

Presentation: The Final Touch of Elegance

Before release, each bottle is carefully capped, labeled, and detailed. Custom labeling is also available for private or corporate events — a personal touch for a memorable wine.

A Place of History and Life

Château des Broyers, a jewel of Burgundy’s heritage, now combines winemaking with hospitality. Renovated in 2006, it hosts corporate seminars, weddings, and art exhibitions within its elegant grounds.
