Vignobles Fabien Castaing, Bergerac and Monbazillac since 1898

Vignobles Fabien Castaing

A family estate of the Bergeracois (Dordogne), five generations since 1898, run by Fabien Castaing. Two properties: the Domaine de Moulin-Pouzy (54 ha, HVE, in organic conversion) and the Chateau Les Mailleries (11 ha, certified organic since 2004). Bergerac, Cotes de Bergerac, Monbazillac and IGP Perigord.

Since 1898, the Castaing family has cultivated the art of wine in the Dordogne, with a passion passed down from generation to generation. Today, Fabien Castaing, the fifth of the name, embodies this continuity with a new energy, between respect for its roots and sustainable innovation. His credo: to reveal the terroirs of the South-West through sincere, balanced wines respectful of nature. A geological mosaic - clay-limestone, flint and boulbene - lets the whole palette of the Bergeracois be expressed, from Bergerac red to Monbazillac sweet.

The heart of the Bergerac: the Domaine de Moulin-Pouzy

The Domaine de Moulin-Pouzy, the family's historic property, spans 54 hectares between Cuneges and Pomport, at the heart of the Bergeracois. Since the takeover of the estate in 2008, Fabien has brought it into a new era: acquisition of new plots in AOC Bergerac and Monbazillac (2009-2011), HVE level 3 certification (2013), purchase of Chateau Les Mailleries (11 ha certified organic since 2004) in 2016, then the start of the organic conversion of the Domaine de Moulin-Pouzy and the creation of an organic craft beer (2019). The estate is now recognised as a regional benchmark for sustainable viticulture and artisanal quality.

From HVE to organic farming

Since 2013, the Domaine de Moulin-Pouzy has been certified HVE 3 (High Environmental Value), a demanding label resting on four pillars: biodiversity, reasoned management of inputs, sustainable fertilisation and water management. In organic conversion since 2019, it places its future in ecological and responsible viticulture, faithful to the philosophy of the Independent Winegrowers. The Chateau Les Mailleries, for its part, has been certified organic since 2004.

Singular terroirs between clay, limestone and flint

The Vignobles Fabien Castaing rest on a true geological mosaic: clay-limestone soils, flint and boulbene (sandy-clay lands). Hard limestone brings roundness, elegance and persistence; flint offers tension and minerality; clays favour richness and volume. This diversity lets the whole palette of the South-West be expressed. In red and rosé, Merlot (suppleness), Cabernet Sauvignon (structure) and Malbec (intensity and ageing); in white, Semillon (richness, ideal for sweet wines), Sauvignon Blanc and Gris (freshness), Muscadelle (floral complexity) and Ugni Blanc (vivacity). Each blend reflects the complementarity between terroir and grape.

Authentic, expressive cuvees

The Fabien Castaing wines embody the diversity of the South-West. At the Domaine de Moulin-Pouzy, the Classique and La Cuvee ranges (Bergerac red, dry white, rosé, Cotes de Bergerac medium-sweet, Monbazillac sweet) and the Optimum range, excellence cuvees (including the Optimum Liquoreux in 2011 and 2012 vintages). At the Chateau Les Mailleries, the organic expression: M Rouge, M Rose, M Blanc Sec and the Mon Essentiel cuvees. Add to these the sparkling wines (Blanc de Blancs, Rose), the ADN24 Perigord-Dordogne range (IGP Perigord) and the natural, bold cuvees: ViniBulles Pet'Nat, Retiens Ton Soufre and L'Orange des Mailleries.
