Domaine Arnaud – Château Saint-Estèphe: The Family Tradition of the Médoc
A Family Story and a Living Heritage. Founded around 1870 by an ancestor of the Arnaud family, the estate embodies over a century and a half of passion for the vine. Passed down from generation to generation, it has preserved its family roots while embracing the evolution of modern viticulture. Today, the founder’s spirit still guides the daily work of the Arnaud family: to preserve the terroir, enhance the grape, and uphold the excellence of the Médoc tradition.
An Exceptional Terroir at the Heart of Saint-Estèphe
The 8-hectare vineyard stretches across the prestigious terroirs of Leyssac, Marbuzet, and Blanquet — three emblematic localities of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. The soils combine clay-gravel, sand, fine gravel, and clay-limestone, offering remarkable complementarity. This diversity allows the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grape varieties to fully express their potential, producing wines that are both powerful, deep, and elegantly aromatic.
Bordered by the Gironde estuary, the estate enjoys a mild microclimate that promotes the slow ripening of the grapes, ensuring wines of balance, richness, and longevity.
Craftsmanship Combining Tradition and Precision
Every stage of winemaking is guided by the ancestral methods of the Médoc:
- Manual harvesting for meticulous grape selection;
- Fermentation in vats with regular pump-overs to extract aromas;
- Long macerations to achieve structure and intensity;
- 12 months of aging in oak barrels, 30% of which are new, to refine the tannins and develop complexity.
This rigorous, fruit-respectful approach produces wines that blend the classic Médoc style with modern finesse.
The Wines of the Estate
Château Saint-Estèphe
The estate’s flagship wine, a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Aged for 12 months in oak barrels, 30% new, it impresses with its deep color, aromas of red and black fruits, and silky tannins. A true Grand Vin de Garde, it reflects the Médoc’s nobility and strength.
Château Arnaud – The Estate’s Second Wine
Produced from younger vines, this wine combines 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. Aged for 12 months in barrels, it reveals freshness, fruit-forward notes, and a balanced structure, perfect for earlier enjoyment.
Special Cuvée "Origine" – Château Saint-Estèphe
Made from a parcel selection of the estate’s oldest vines, this exceptional cuvée blends 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. Aged for 18 months, 65% in new barrels, it offers rare aromatic intensity, refined tannins, and remarkable length on the palate. A wine of emotion — the purest expression of the Arnaud family’s savoir-faire.
