Platz François & Fils, a living and committed Alsace in Bergheim
In Bergheim, an Alsatian village encircled by medieval walls, Domaine Platz François & Fils cultivates a simple yet demanding vision of wine: letting nature do the work, without artifice. A conviction patiently built long before organic farming became mainstream.
A family history guided by respect for life
Established in Bergheim since the early 20th century, the Platz family has passed down its winemaking know-how for three generations. After François, his sons Vincent Platz and Jean-Luc Platz now carry the torch with rigor and humility.
Their guiding principles have remained clear and consistent over time:
1993: complete elimination of fertilizers
1996: end of chaptalization (no added sugar)
1998: abandonment of commercial yeasts
2001: end of chemical weed control
2004: official commitment to organic farming
Organic certification (AB), controlled by ECOCERT
Here, every decision has been driven by conviction—never by opportunism.
A vineyard of terroirs and grand crus
The estate’s vineyards stretch across the hillsides of Bergheim and neighboring villages, offering remarkable terroir diversity. The domaine counts two Grand Crus, including the prestigious Altenberg de Bergheim, one of the very few Alsace Grand Crus that allows the blending of grape varieties.
This unique feature provides exceptional freedom of expression, enabling the creation of complex, deep and perfectly balanced wines, where terroir always takes precedence over technique.
Organic viticulture without compromise
At Domaine Platz, respect for biodiversity is expressed through concrete practices:
no use of fertilizers or herbicides
100% manual harvesting and sorting
no added yeasts, no stabilizing agents
minimal intervention in the cellar
The vines are observed and supported, never forced. This approach gives rise to pure, digestible and deeply expressive wines, faithful to their origin.
Authentic and precise Alsace wines
The estate’s range reflects the full diversity of Alsatian grape varieties: Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Sylvaner, Auxerrois, Muscat, as well as beautifully crafted Crémants d’Alsace.
Each cuvée stands out for:
a clear expression of terroir
natural energy
elegance without excess
Wines from specific sites and Grand Crus—such as Goldesch de Bergheim, Sonnenglanz de Beblenheim and Altenberg de Bergheim—rank among the domaine’s most accomplished expressions.
A sincere Alsace, without make-up
Domaine Platz François & Fils embodies a true, committed Alsace, deeply respectful of the living world. Wines shaped with patience, coherence and honesty, where every bottle tells the story of a soil, a climate and a family.
Here, modernity makes no noise. It is tasted.
Why does the blending of grape varieties authorized in the Altenberg de Bergheim Grand Cru allow for a more complex and balanced expression in organic Alsace wines ?
